QUALIFICATIONS:- 57 years of administrative experience in healthcare required preferably in an academic medical center environment with increasing responsibility.
- 35 years of direct supervisory experience of a multipleemployee team required.
- Bachelor degree required masters degree preferred or greater than 10 years of health care administration experience considered.
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive human resources issues especially including conflict resolution among and between administrative/clinical leaders clinical faculty and other staff.

GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Unit of Hospital Medicine part of the BWH Department of Medicine (DOM) is comprised of approximately 70 faculty members supporting inpatient service at both Brigham and Womens Hospital and Brigham and Womens Faulkner Hospital with an operating budget of over $14M/year.This service provides daytime attending and PA services for the General Medicine service and nocturnist and moonlighting support for all of the Department of Medicine PA services.The Administrator has direct responsibility for the supervising organizing and facilitating the daily operations and cost center financial performance of the unit. This position requires an individual who can work independently and creatively. Job responsibilities will also include developing innovative administrative support for the service and promoting and maintaining the services local and national reputation as a leader in academic Hospital Medicine.The Administrator reports to the DOM Director of Operations and provides support and information to Unit of Hospital Medicine Medical Director.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General
- Reviews the ongoing management of the clinical operations areas of responsibility discusses and resolves any administrative problems that arise.
- Manage the hiring and onboard process for all faculty and PAs on the service including hospital payer and HMS credentialing.
- Organize and maintain clinical schedules for the Hospitalist service Nocturnist service PA GMS service and moonlighting.
- Ensure physician credentialing and billing is complete and maintained with a high level of efficiency and independence.Ensures PA credentialing is complete and maintained with a high level of efficiency and independence.
- Prepare reports for the unit Medical Director and Director of Operations.
Financial Management
- Responsible for the cost center fiscal management of all areas of responsibility. Assists with achieving financial goals and measures set by the Director of Operations and unit Medical director monitors financial performance and ensures the ongoing financial performance of the clinical operations areas of all areas of responsibility.
- Provides financial modeling including substantial breakeven program analysis and the ongoing evaluation of existing programs; develop and maintain operational and financial reporting tools for monitoring unit activities.
- In partnership with Director of Operations prepares analysis and forecasting for expansion of services.
- Understands and meets all financial reporting requirements in the prescribed format per the direction of the Director of Operations and the BWH budget office.
Human Resources Management- Recruits retains develops and provides managerial and administrative oversight of all staff within the clinical operations areas of responsibility. Creates a working environment that supports the ongoing professional growth and development of all staff high morale and optimal job satisfaction. Serves as the primary resource for all administrative issues concerning human resources policy issues for staff in the clinical operations areas of responsibility.
- Facilitates resolution of conflicts and issues that emerge between key clinical and administrative stakeholder groups.
- Provides leadership in the implementation of regular staff meetings inservice training and continuing education activities for all areas of responsibility.
- In conjunction with the Director of Operations unit Medical Director Chief PA and Director of PA service for BWH hire credential onboard and administer the PAs on the GMS PACE service.
- Develops implements and monitors compliance with policies and procedures mandated by institutional and regulatory entities (e.g. The Joint Commission Department of Public Health etc).
- Partners with Human Resources to ensure employment relationships personnel compensation and benefits are implemented in a manner consistent with hospital policies and procedures.
- Responsible for handling numerous personnel matters including reviewing and approving all hiring compensation and evaluation decisions for the clinical operations areas of responsibility. Implements all institutional policies related to all phases of personnel activity including recruitment interviewing compensation benefits orientation performance evaluations promotions transfers and terminations. Transmits and interprets institutional policies to employees. Ensures appropriate training of employees. Assesses employee workload and recommends changes as needed. Monitors hiring trends to ensure market competitiveness.

- Organize and run agenda of internal leadership and administrative meetings
- Manages other clinical and nonclinical areas of the Unit of Hospital Medicine as assigned by the Director of Operations.
- Leads or participates in special projects as requested by the Director of Operations.
- Consistently meets all deadlines for deliverables or activities as established by the Director of Operations and hospital policies and standards.
