Job Description

Summary:The Ragon Institute of MGH MIT and Harvard together with Harvard Medical School (HMS) and the Massachusetts General Hospital are seeking an outstanding scientist at the Professor level to assume a leadership role within the Institute. The vision of the Institute founded in 2009 is to engage in crossdisciplinary collaborative research to harness the immune system to prevent and cure human disease with the initial goal of contributing to the development of an HIV vaccine. The Ragon Institute seeks candidates who are interested in being a part of this vision by committing significant effort to the goal of advancing our understanding of the human immune system to accelerate vaccine development. Individuals are sought whose expertise complements existing programs at the Ragon Institute especially in the areas of Immunology Systems Biology and Vaccinology.Job Duties:The successful candidate will play a key role in developing their research program guiding strategy scientific direction funding decisions and future recruitment efforts of the Ragon Institute. He/she will receive a competitive startup package to support his/her scientific research and will help guide the use of annual philanthropic support designed to accelerate innovative cross disciplinary collaborative research. Additionally the chosen individual will provide an important interface with MIT and HMS in fostering the goals of the Ragon Institute to bring scientists from diverse backgrounds into the HIV vaccine field.As such the successful candidate will be appointed Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunobiology at Harvard Medical School in addition to an appointment within the Department of Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be provided an endowed chair at Harvard.Qualifications:Candidates should have a M.D. Ph.D. M.D. /Ph.D. or equivalent degree and should demonstrate a track record of exceptional achievement in biomedical research. Although candidates do not need to have a background in HIV they should be committed to participating in collaborative interdisciplinary research that will advance the goal of an effective HIV vaccine.
