Overview
The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at Macalester College in St. Paul Minnesota is seeking a parttime language lab instructor for theacademic year September 2 2025 May 31 2026. Language Lab Instructors teach smallgroup sections that supplement Chinese language courses taught by professors and they plan cultural events.
This .56FTE parttime benefitseligible staff position is active during the 9month academic calendar (SeptemberMay) but paid over 12 months (SeptemberAugust). During the academic year this position works approximately 26 hours per week
About The Department:
Macalesters Asian Languages and Cultures department offers Mandarin Chinese and Japanese languages courses as well as a range of seminars designed to help students deepen their understanding of East Asian literature film linguistics music geography art history religion politics and anthropology. Our department is committed to inclusive teaching and learning in all of our classes.
Responsibilities
- Prepare materials for and teach all lab classes 8 or 9 classes per week but only 3 preps; one prep can cover 23 classes)
- Hold regular office hours
- Weekly meeting with faculty
- Plan cultural events
Qualifications
- Masters degree in hand or in progress. A strong candidate with a BA will also be considered.
- Teaching experience at the college level is preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in all modalities of Chinese and English
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Compensation
- Salary range: $28000 $31100 based on the qualifications and experience
