Job Description

The Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Pathology is looking for exceptional candidates to join the Computational Pathology Research Group. The objective of this group is to assemble and analyze large datasets (including genomic scale nextgeneration sequencing data). This work will be performed as part of an interdisciplinary team that includes computational biologists bioinformatics analysts basic and translational scientists and clinicians. Projects will include: integration of cancer genome transcriptome and epigenome data; development of database structures for genomic data and clinical annotations; analysis of clinical samples and materials from basic and translational research. Successful candidates will be expected to supervise junior members of the computational group and make substantial computational contributions by providing statistical analysis identifying patterns through machinelearning utilizing classification tools and developing software for data analysis. Oversee the development and growth of the research computational biology infrastructure within the Pathology Department. Supervise staff and coordinate the workflow for the computational group. Design and implement computational pipelines for processing of data generated by nextgeneration sequencing platforms (e.g. DNA sequencing RNAseq ChIPseq) Develop data analysis strategies and apply them to cancer data sets critically review and analyze results communicate results to biologists computational biologists software engineers and clinicians. Explore novel data visualization tools with emphasis on integrating diverse data types which will include clinical data Implement algorithms as software for distribution to the cancer research community Support specific research projects conducted by principal investigators in MGH Pathology.

Ability to apply statistical and machine learning techniques to solve big data problems. Significant experience in computer programming and algorithm development (MATLAB R Python Java Scala C or equivalent) with a desire to focus on computational biology applications.Ability to work in a highly collaborative and intellectually challenging environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills.Preference will be given to candidates with a strong record of developing solutions for computational biological or engineering problems.Ph.D. in mathematics physical sciences computer science engineering or similar.Two years postdoctoral research experience in an academic or industry setting is preferred.
