GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Working independently and under general supervision from the Principal Investigator the RA will perform quantitative analyses for an NIHfunded study that uses unexpected death after medical encounters to study quality of care. The project is fundamentally multidisciplinary integrating insights and methods from medicine biostatisics epidemiology computer science economics and health policy. Work is based in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Brigham & Womens Hospital and Harvard Medical School in collaboration with Ariadne Labs (Gawande DAvolio) the Harvard Economics Department and the National Bureau of Economic Research (Cutler). The RA be responsible for performing statistical analyses from basic parametric models to more innovative methods using Medicare claims and clinical administrative data. There will be scope for the RA to participate in the design and writing of individual manuscripts as an author by mutual agreement. The ideal candidate would eventually wish to pursue an advanced degree in a field related to the broad areas of work outlined above.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop organize and/or maintain study databases.
2. Analyze clinical and administrative data on patient demographics diagnoses and health care utilization.
3. In conjunction with Research Manager/Principal Investigator develops and implements new research protocols including design data collection systems and institutional review board approval.
4. Recommends changes to research protocols.
5. Performs literature searches as appropriate.
6. Assists PI or Research Manager with preparation for presentation and written published articles.
7. All other duties as assigned.

Bachelors degree and at least 1 year of post graduate research experience required. Advanced degree in statistics math engineering computer science economics and computational biology recommended.
