Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:


Works under the very general direction of the Principal Investigator. Performs the full scope of management responsibilities in a research laboratory including fiscal/budget management supervision of staff activities inventory management regulatory compliance etc.Independently performs highly sophisticated experiments. Participates with the Principal Investigator in the design of experimental protocols. Interprets experimental results in conference with other researchers.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervises operation of the laboratory including overseeing the use of laboratory funds supply inventory and staff activities.
  2. Manages all lab personnel including hiring firing performance evaluation disciplinary action orientation and training.
  3. Responsible for financial management of research lab. Develops budgets analyzes trends produces reports. Additionally participates in grant writing and proposal development.
  4. Responsible for the coordination of regulatory and compliance activities for the lab.
  5. Reports on work in progress at weekly seminars and interprets experiment results in conference with other researchers.
  6. Carries out independent research projects which involve the of highly sophisticated techniques.
  7. Contributes to scientific literature and may present the results at hospital and outside meetings.
  8. Trains staff in specialized lab techniques.
  9. All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree required. MS preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years progressively more responsible research work experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.


SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Able to make independent effective decisions in appropriate situations.
  • Most possess a scientific imagination commensurate with the independent of research projects.
  • Aptitude for technical problem solving.
  • Ability to effectively supervise others.
  • Excellent organizational skills to ensure smooth functioning of the lab.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to logically sequence experiments to maximize research.
  • Aptitude for budget management.
  • High level of computer literacy.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Laboratory environment


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible for supervising staff including hiring firing evaluating and disciplining. Will orient and train new staff members.


FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:

Maintain records that interface with invoicing of other facilities for biomarker tests performed.
