Job Description

Qualifications
  • BSN and Masters degree required
  • Current Massachusetts RN license required
  • Five years of clinical experience
  • Demonstrated progressive leadership Project management experience
  • Minimum 3 years experience in quality measurement and/or improvement patient safety or compliance/regulatory
  • Experience working in a large and complex health care organization
  • Competence with MS Word Excel PowerPoint and Access Database management experience

General Summary/Overview Statement:
The Quality Program Director serves as a highly visible energetic champion of quality and patient safety throughout BWH Department of Nursing. This individual reports to the Associate Chief Nurse of Quality and Center for Nursing Excellence to provide leadership for hospital wide efforts to continuously improve the safety effectiveness efficiency patientcenteredness equity and timeliness of health care service to all patients.The Quality Program Director is accountable for quality safety and ensuring regulatory compliance for the department as well as reporting internally and externally to appropriate data bases. He/She ensures implementation of evidence base practices along with data collection maintenance analysis interpretation and dissemination of quality safety and compliance data findings. The Quality Program Director participates in hiring training supervising and evaluating program staff associated with safety and quality initiatives as necessary to fulfill a project goal; providing leadership management and facilitation of related quality improvement teams and efforts within the nursing division and across related operational departments. This role is highly visible within the organization serves as a resource to the department of nursing and will serve as a key liaison for quality and safety on numerous committees throughout BWH.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Manages the following department quality safety regulatory/compliance and evidence based practice program activities:
2. Develops quality improvement program to effect change and accomplish the established goals and objectives of the Department of Nursing through performance of needs assessments to identify practice/ systems issues and create/enhance processes and systems for meeting program goals and objectives.
3. Assumes role of project manager for specific projects that include overall accountability for operational outcomes supervision of project team including feedback on work performance and accountability to project sponsor.
4. Works with nursing leadership and care improvement teams to monitor performs data collection and compilation; ensures entry of accurate and reliable clinical/compliance data into webbased or Access databases for all eligible patient cases.
5. Analyzes interprets and presents quality/safety program results to various audiences including the Chiefs of Service VP of Patient Care Services Executive Nursing Directors Directors and Educators as well as frontline Nursing and Medical staff.
6. Identifies required staff for program implementation and has authority to hire train supervise and evaluate program staff associated with various safety and quality initiatives.
7. Collaborates with Nursing Director to prioritize improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with existing quality and safety initiatives.
8. Resource to Nursing Directors to review monthly balanced scorecard data and identify areas for improvement and consultant to the development of action plans.
9. Creates and manages program budgets monitors use of resources supplies equipment and integrates cost containment factors into program planning and implementation.
10. Responsible to communicate and ensure compliance with evolving mandates for external quality reporting and regulatory requirements e.g. JCAHO NPSGs ORYX Leapfrog CMS/Medicare etc. in collaboration with Center for Clinical Excellence.
11. Leads and/or participates in department and/or hospital committees and task forces as the nursing department representative.
12. Establishes effective interdisciplinary relationships with members of clinical departments the Center for Nursing Excellence Center for Clinical Excellence Medical Records Compliance/Risk Management Laboratory Information Systems etc. whose support is necessary for the successful management of compliance quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
13. Keeps current with knowledge of legislative social and regulatory changes that impact the health care delivery system and implements recommendations to enhance practice patterns that are impacted by such change.
14. Collaborates with colleagues in the Center for Nursing Excellence Nursing Directors and Executive Directors to identify and address educational needs related to safety quality and compliance.
15. Assumes a leadership role in ensuring that nursing practice is evidencebased.
16. Leads the development and review of patient care policies and nursing standards.
17. Facilitates and/or participates in nursing research and/or grant writing as appropriate to program and departmental need.
18. Presentation of Posters
19. Ongoing review of projects and /or programs to ensure sustainability.
20. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required
