Job Description

Responsible for independently evaluating selecting and applying standardized scientific procedures and techniques; contributes to the planning design and interpretation of experiments; makes detailed observations records data and assists in preparation of reports papers presentations and new proposals; presents results/papers at technical meetings; may participate in the guidance/mentoring of junior staff.

Summary

The Genomics and Spatial Biology Collaborative Laboratory (CoLab) at SCRI is seeking a highly organized detailoriented Research Scientist II with impeccable bench skills related to spatial omics & NGS/third generation library preparations and analyses. The ideal scientist will have handson experience with both spatial biology workflows and DNA/RNA library preparations as well as basic bioinformatic data compilation formatting and analysis.

The successful candidate will play an essential role in enabling cuttingedge pediatric research assisting with core facility operations and providing expert guidance and outreach to researchers. This position requires an understanding of genomics transcriptomics histology and spatial biology techniques and a commitment to advancing scientific discovery by providing core services to SCRI laboratories. The Research Scientist II will provide innovative and rapid turnaround services for basic translational and clinical research maximizing efficient use of CoLab equipment and helping to expand services to a wider customer base.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research & Development:

    • Support the design and analysis of genomics and spatial biology experiments utilizing core facility technology.

    • Working with Research Scientist IV/Supervisor in the CoLab develop and optimize protocols for NGS & longread sequencing spatial transcriptomics and other advanced techniques.

    • Collaborate with researchers to design experiments interpret data problem solve and publish results.

    • Keep up with technology landscape in the field and work towards keeping the core facility capabilities at the cutting edge.

    • Prepare reagents and assist with daily sample processing analysis.

    • Perform routine maintenance on laboratory instrumentation such as buffer exchange calibration and troubleshooting.

  • Core Facility Operations:

    • Participate in daily operations of the Genomics and Spatial Biology CoLab ensuring high standards of quality organized inventory controls and accurate record keeping.

    • Actively monitor core supplies inventory and work with Research Scientist IV/Supervisor to identify supply order needs.

    • Ensure projects are completed and billed on schedule.

    • Operate and maintain advanced sequencing platforms spatial transcriptomics equipment and other core facility technologies.

    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations quality control and standard operating procedures.

    • Support core facility technology promotions and relevant events

  • Data Management & Analysis:

    • Maintain detailed electronic lab notebook on all experiments performed & provide basic QC reports on completed core services.

    • In partnership with computing and data science core at SCRI support data acquisition and management in the genomics and spatial biology area.

    • Collaborate in the design development and implementation of data management and data science solutions.

  • Collaboration & Communication:

    • Foster collaborative relationships with internal and external researchers promoting the use of core facility services.

    • Support the development of scientific reports grant applications and publications.

    • Represent the core facility at conferences seminars and institutional meetings as needed.

    • Participate in training technicians and trainees including students

Required Education and Experience
Bachelors Degree in an engineering or scientific discipline; may require a Masters Degree for certain lab specialties.Minimum of two 2 years experience in a related area/laboratory setting.

Required Credentials
N/A.

Preferred
Masters Degree in applicable field/research specialty highly preferred.Significant experience conducting research in area of specialization.Some experience with laboratory management.

Compensation Range

$31.28 $46.93 per hour

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on fulltime employment 2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity skills experience and expertise and may vary within the range provided.
