MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of social services experience; OR
Six years of fulltime experience in any field; OR
A bachelors degree.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of fulltime work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Positions that provide addictive disorder counseling or prevention services will require certification or eligibility for certification issued by the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority (ADRA) or its successor.

To provide general social services work through direct services and/or general counseling.
Level of Work:
Entry.
Supervision Received:
Close from a Social Service Counselor 5 social worker or other higherlevel social services personnel.
Supervision Exercised:
None.
Location of Work:
Department of Health and Hospitals; LSUHealth Sciences Centers Acute Care Hospitals Medical Schools; Veterans Affairs; Department of Corrections; Department of Social Services.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from the Professional Counselor job series by the absence of a masters degree and licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Differs from the Social Service Counselor 2 by the supervision received.

Provide direct services to a specialized caseload and conducts specific assessments and data collection.
Coordinates admissions discharges and followup services within various programs.
Assist clients with completing documents.
Assists in determining eligibility for services provided.
Complete Preauthorizations and reauthorizations for third party payments.
Manage electronic health records for all patients ensuring records are complete.
Maintains client account by obtaining and recoding and updating personal and financial information.
Performs responsible initial departmentalprogram duties in accordance with rules regulations and policies. May involve communication with other departments customers etc.
