Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Assistant Research Professor of Microbial Population Genomics

The Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology in the College of Agricultural Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a 36week nontenuretrack faculty position at the rank of Assistant Research Professor with expertise in population genomics epidemiology and evolution of bacterial plant pathogens. This position has 100 research responsibilities.

This is a term 3year appointment with renewal dependent on performance and availability of funds.

The candidate will develop an externally funded research program focusing on utilizing whole genome sequences and other molecular tools to investigate the population dynamics and evolutionary processes that lead to the development of epidemics of plant pathogenic bacteria. The ability to engage professionally with a diverse population of faculty staff and students across the university is required. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with faculty from across the College and University including the One Health Microbiome Center.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Plant Pathology Ecology Biology Microbiology or a related field is required. Applicants should provide evidence of strong potential for conducting and publishing innovative research competitiveness for external research funding excellence in communication with diverse populations and keen interest and skills to mentor and advise students.

Candidates will be evaluated on their potential for publishing high impact work obtaining extramural funding excellence in instruction and collaboration in research and instruction within and outside the Department.
