JOB SUMMARY

There are also opportunities for providing afterschool music enrichment for students of all ages.

Santiam Canyon is located in the beautiful foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range and proudly serves thecommunities of Mill City Gates Detroit Idanha and surrounding areas. Located close to Salem and other larger towns Santiam Elementary School is an ideal location to teachand collaborate with educational professionals helping students achieve their limitless potential.

This position is responsible for providing musical skill development to a variety of students in a classroom setting and serves as a key segue into a delveloped 6th 12th grade music program.Teachers at Santiam Elementary regularlyparticipate in building wide professional development meet as professional learning communities to discuss student learning growth data and implement intervention programs. Our PE and Music teachers partner together to provide instruction to every student every day from Kindergarten through 5th grade. We also staff aliteracy specialist math specialist school counselor and behavior specialist utilizing a mutlitiered system of supports to meet students educational and socialemotional needs. Our student behavior data is exceptional and weboast an active PTO and strong local community. Santiam operates on a 4 day school week and teacher contracts are for 170 work days.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policy(ies) and procedures.
  2. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  3. Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs interests and abilities of students.
  4. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for their assigned teachers aide(s).
  5. Assists in the selection of books equipment and other instructional materials.
  6. Instructs students and assigns relevant homework.
  7. Grades papers assignments and assessments promptly and accurately.
  8. Tests and evaluates students abilities and progress. Have knowledge of state standards and testing requirements and the implementation of such tests.
  9. Prepares report cards and progress reports.
  10. Facilitates conferences with students and parents.
  11. Completes required paperwork in specified time and manner.
  12. Designs and implements appropriate instruction of subject assigned in accordance with students needs District curriculum and state standards.
  13. Conducts appropriate assessments of students work and maintains accurate and regular data on students in areas of attendance grades and IEP progress if applicable.
  14. Supervises students in hallways before after and between classes in library and at specials events.
  15. Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  16. Informs parents of student progress concerning academic achievement and behavior through conferences written messages telephone calls and/or email.
  17. Promptly reports any serious accident or illness affecting students in the teachers charge or any incident which might affect the school teachers or students therein.
  18. Uses a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  19. Assesses the accomplishments of student on a regular basis and maintains such records as required by law and by District policy.
  20. Takes all responsible precautions to provide for health and safety of the students and to protect equipment materials and facilities.
  21. Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
  22. Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
  23. Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents community staff and students.
  24. Complies with applicable District state local and federals laws rules and regulations.
  25. Attends work regularly and is punctual.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.   • Education and/or Experience: Bachelors degree (B.A. or B.S. or equivalent from fouryear college or university or at least one year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Masters degree (M.A. or equivalent strongly preferred. Must be highly qualified under the reauthorized ESEA. Prior successful experience teaching students in a school setting strongly preferred.
  • Certificates Licenses Registrations: Certificates as determined by the District including meeting current highly qualified requirements under the reauthorized ESEA. Must have a valid teachers license and subject specific endorsement(s) through the Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) OR have an ability to obtain the needed endorsements CPR/First Aid card and Oregon Driver License.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be according to the current negotiated contract. Our district operates on a 4day school week.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board policy.
