Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS: (MUST be realistic neither overstated nor understated and related to the essential functions of the job.

High School Diploma or equivalent required

Bachelor Degree strongly preferred

*The ideal candidate will be a college graduate or currently enrolled in college pursuing a degree in nursing science or other allied health field.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: (MUST be realistic neither overstated nor understated and related to the essential functions of the job.

Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills. This position requires a great deal of initial contact with patients.

Excellent communication skills.

Proficient in all MA technical skills.

Must possess a solid understanding of ambulatory patient care to ensure smooth patient flow be organized and multitasking and have excellent learning skills.

Ability to prioritize in a very busy atmosphere.

Computer Literacy/Data Entry Skills.

Familiarity in a healthcare setting.

Ability to problemsolve. Capable to work quickly to resolve or minimize identified problems.

Ability and willingness to train and precept other MAs in competencies.

Ability to work successfully as a team player.

Good organizational skills are required to prioritize tasks effectively.

Must maintain annual competencies related to practice protocol.

Must attend mandatory department meetings and annual inservices.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Describe the conditions in which the work is performed.

Healthcare environment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: List the number of FTEs supervised.

No direct supervisory FTEs.

Responsible for training of new staff and taking lead role for other staff.

Responsible for coordinating MA coverage with Practice Manager to ensure smooth patient flow.

Works closely with Practice Manager on staffing coverage.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: Indicate financial scope information i.e.: size of budget volume revenue etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

AS in Biomedical Equipment Technology or equivalent level of education or experience.

One to two years related experience preferred.

Must have competence in repair of mechanical electromechanical electronic and/or computer medical technology to sufficiently diagnose and repair medical devices and systems.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

(MUST be realistic neither overstated nor understated and related to the essential functions of the job.

Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills to effectively work with team members and customers at all levels.

Ability to perform testing and troubleshooting of medical devices involving specialized and generic test equipment and software diagnostic tools.

Understands electrical and mechanical biomedical safety principles.

Performs in a highly independent manner working within the broad scope of established department policies procedures and goals.

Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively and ability to occasionally maneuver and lift heavy equipment.

Ability to endure long periods of walking and standing.

Ability to learn equipment maintenance operating procedures and repair procedures from training materials and courses.

Ability to perform during routine emergency or other stressful situations.

Ability to use computerbased tools at a moderate to high level e.g. novel query of a database.

Ability to teach other technical and clinical personnel.

General knowledge of human physiology and biomedical instrumentation principles.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

List the number of FTEs supervised.

No specific supervision.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:

Indicate financial scope information i.e.: size of budget volume revenue etc.

Maintains accurate and current records of equipment activities and inventory and replacement parts.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

May work in clinical or repair facility with exposure to biological contamination e.g. blood and hazardous electrical or mechanical energy e.g. high voltage. Periodic lifting of heavy objects typically not exceeding 75 pounds/person.

HOSPITAL WIDE RESPONSIBILITIES:

These are required of all staff regardless of position. Do not remove these standards.

Works within legal regulatory accreditation and ethical practice standards relevant to the position and as established by BWH/Partners; follows safe practices required for the position; complies with appropriate BWH and Partners policies and procedures; fulfills any training required by BWH and/or Partners as appropriate; brings potential matters of noncompliance to the attention of the supervisor or other appropriate hospital staff.
