DescriptionValley Health System is actively recruiting an Oncologist to join the team as Associate Chair for its Oncology Service Line.
The Valley Medical Group (VMG) seeks an experienced Hematologic or Medical Oncology leader to serve as Associate Chair Oncology Services VMG and Director Hematology and Medical Oncology.
ValleyMount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Care (VMSCCC) an exceptional communitybased multispecialty cancer program in northern New Jersey is a collaboration between the Valley Health System (VHS) and New Yorks Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS). Professional services of VMSCCC are provided under the auspices of VMG.
The Associate Chair Oncology Services will work closely with the Chair in providing leadership clinical oversight and strategic vision for VMSCCC. The position will work collaboratively with senior leadership in VHS and MSHS to further develop multidisciplinary programs of clinical care research education and community outreach. The Associate Chair will partner with the VMSCCC Quality Department to assure continued accreditation of Valleys cancer program by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as well as other accreditations. In addition the Associate Chair will serve a critical role in directing the expansion of clinical cancer research. The Associate Chair will be a voting member of the VMG Executive Committee and will serve on the Medical Staff Oncology Service Line Executive Committee of the Valley Hospital (TVH).
As Director Hematology and Medical Oncology the role will focus on managing and expanding our QOPIaccredited Hematology and Medical Oncology practice and ensuring ambulatory and inpatient care of the highest quality. It is anticipated that they will play a key role in the development of a Hematology and Medical Oncology fellowship.
This role will serve in a collaborative team with VHS VMG and The Valley Hospital (TVH) leaders.
TIME ALLOCATION:Doctor shall spend 60 of their time performing administrative services and 40 of their time performing clinical services
ResponsibilitiesDoctor shall spend 30 of their time as Associate Chair Oncology Services
Overall responsibilities:
- Assist the Chair in providing medical direction and oversight of Oncology Services within VHS including VMG practices (Hematology and Medical Oncology Oncologic Surgery Services Radiation Oncology) and associated TVH services (Infusion Radiation Therapy)
- Participate in ensuring that VHS provides cancer care and oncology programs of the highest quality
- Contribute to the continued development modification and implementation of the Oncology Strategic Plan in collaboration with VMG TVH and VHS leadership
- Share in enhancing and sustaining the relationship of VHS with the Mount Sinai Health System the Tisch Cancer Institute and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
- Participate in identifying strategic opportunities for growth development and network expansion including the development of marketing initiatives improvement in network integrity and patient satisfaction.
Medical Leadership
- Participate in the Oncology Service Line Executive Council at The Valley Hospital
- Assist the Chair in providing overall medical leadership to VMG providers in Oncology Services
- Establish effective working relationships with the Executive Director VMSCCC; Director Oncology Surgical Services; the coDirectors of Radiation Oncology; and the Lead APP for Oncology
- Support physician within VMG Oncology Services in their clinical education and research roles
- Develop and implement programsthatfocusonqualitypatientsatisfactionand serviceexcellencethroughoutOncology Services
- Assure that office hospital and oncall coverage is consistent with optimal patient care for all VMG Oncology Services
- Work with the Chair and Executive Director to assure that oncology treatment is provided in accordance with the guidelines of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network and other professional societies to ensure the highest quality of care and clinical outcomes while optimizing resource utilization for efficient and effective valuebased care delivery within the service line
- In partnership with the Chair the Executive Director and VMG leaders leadtherecruitmentprocessfornewphysicians
- Collaborate with the Chair Oncology Services the Executive Director and with VMG leadership and administration in the recruitment of physicians advanced practice providers and other clinical staff for VMSCCC including any combined recruitment related to Valleys oncology affiliation with Mount Sinai Health System.
- Assure that physician members of VMG Oncology Services fulfill their primary duties and responsibilities in accordance with their job descriptions and the VMG Compact
- Participatein theannualphysician performance reviewprocess in Oncology Services
- Engage in the professional development of VMG medical staff including motivating evaluating and providing feedback on job related criteria and areas of responsibility within the guidelines of human resource policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with the Chair Advanced Practice Services and the Lead APP VMG Oncology Services to optimize the participation of advanced practice providers in clinical care within VMG Oncology Services
- Maintain a culture consistent with primary focus on quality of care integrity team performance professionaldevelopmentandappropriatecompensationenablingrecruitmentand retentionofhighlyskilledphysiciansandstaff; embraceandabidebytheVHS SERVE and CARE standards
- In partnership with the Chair the Executive Director and VMG leaders participate in the recruitmentprocessforclinical and administrative staff
- Collaborate with the Chair Oncology Services and with VMG Administration regarding human resource issues for the professional staff
- Support collaborative multidisciplinary diseasefocused care within VHS
- Assist the Chair to identify implement and monitor systems which support quality of care medical group governance quality assurance risk management and peer review.
- Advocate on behalf of VMG Oncology Services providers with VMG and TVH leadership
- Inform the Chair Oncology Services in a timely fashion of any developing or anticipated issue with individual staff members or any issue regarding clinical care within VMG Oncology Services
System Integration
- Assist the Chair in integrating the Oncology Service Line throughout Valley Health System leveraging the resources within TVH VMG and Valley Home Care (VHC)
- Promote collaboration among VMG Oncology providers other VMG providers and providers outside VMG
- Participate in ColigoCare a clinically integrated network (CIN) built in partnership with VHS
- Foster positiverelationshipswith otherVMG Chairs and AssociateChairsVMGphysiciansandtheTVHmedicalstaffatlarge.
- Foster clinicalintegrationacrossservicelines
Research
- Seek opportunities to expand clinical and translational oncology research at VHMSCCC
- Support the development and implementation of aclinicalresearchstrategywiththe VHS researchleadership
- Collaborate with theDirector Okonite Research Center to advance research at VMSCCC
- Support clinical investigators and staff at VMSCCC
- Develop a working relationship with investigators and the leadership of Clinical Research at the Tisch Cancer Institute at Mount Sinai
Graduate Medical Education
- Collaborate with the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) of the Graduate Medical Education Program Directors of the Residency Program and the Chair to develop and implement curriculum enhancement and foster interdisciplinary learning
- Explore the possibility of establishing a fellowship program in Hematology/Oncology in collaboration with the DIO.
Community/Outreach
- In partnership with the Executive Director assist the Chair in planning and delivery of cancerrelated services to the community including outreach screening and early detection education survivorship and support group programs.
Quality
- Participate in ensuring that VMG and TVH Oncology programs meet or exceed standards of accrediting bodies including but not limited to the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons QOPI the American College of Radiology the Joint Commission and other professional societies.
- Participate in defining additional quality metrics as needed

Doctor shall spend 30 of their time as Director Hematology and Medical Oncology.
- Overall be responsible for reliable delivery of outstanding costeffective clinical care within VMG Hematology and Medical Oncology
- Provide medical leadership to VMG Hematology and Medical Oncology physicians and advanced practice practitioners
- Assure that physician members of VMG Hematology and Medical Oncology fulfill their primary duties and responsibilities in accordance with their job descriptions and the VMG Compact.
- Participate in assuring that clinical trials and research protocols within Hematology and Medical Oncology are appropriate to the community and patients we serve and address their needs
- Support physician leaders within VMG Hematology and Medical Oncology in their clinical education and research roles
- Assure that clinical care within the VMG Hematology and Medical Oncology practice and the associated infusion units of VMG and TVH meet or exceed the safety and clinical standards of the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons the Joint Commission and other accrediting agencies; participate in defining additional quality metrics as needed
- Collaborate with the Chair Advanced Practice Services and the Lead APP VMG Oncology Services to optimize the participation of advanced practice providers in clinical care within VMG Hematology and Medical Oncology
- Collaborate with the Practice Manager to assure excellence in operational issues in the practice.
- Work together with VMG and TVH leadership to assure that within the VMG Hematology and Medical Oncology practice tasks are performed by all individuals at top of license but not beyond in accordance with Institutional policies.
- Work closely with pharmacists and TVH Pharmacy leadership to assure optimal delivery of oncologic medication; serve as a member of the Oncology Pharmacy & Therapeutics subcommittee of the TVH Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee.
- Assure that office hospital and oncall coverage is adequate for optimal patient care for VMG Hematology and Medical Oncology
- Advocate on behalf of VMG Hematology and Medical Oncology specialists with VMG and TVH leadership
- Collaborate with the Chair Oncology Services and with VMG Administration in the recruitment of physicians advanced practice providers and other clinical staff for VMG Hematology and Medical Oncology
- Mentor and support new clinicians within VMG Hematology and Medical Oncology
- Be responsible for the professional development of VMG hematologists and medical oncologists
- Assist in establishing clinical and professional goals and objectives annually with each physician within VMG Hematology and Medical Oncology
- Meet as needed with each to discuss jobrelated issues jobrelated performance and progress toward achieving established goals and objectives
- Perform a formal Annual Performance Review for each VMG hematologist and/or medical oncologist
- Inform the Chair Oncology Services in a timely fashion of any developing or anticipated issue with individual staff members or any issue regarding clinical care within VMG Hematology and Medical Oncology
Doctor shall spend 40 of time performing the following clinical duties and responsibilities
- Maintains a clinical practice providing consultation assessment and follow up care to medical oncology patients

- Utilize appropriate and effective patient care plans. Completes documentation concurrently as patients are seen
- Assure continuity of care through adequate scheduling and tracking of return visits completion of treatment plans and followup of chronic problems abnormal tests and noshows
- Provide appropriate patient education including clear explanation of treatment; the use and side effects of prescribed medications; health maintenance; and the use of appropriate educational handouts or other written instructions
- Delegate clinical tasks appropriate to the level of training of each staff member
- Provide an accounting of services rendered and accurate specific diagnosis codes for each patient by completing appropriate billing/reimbursement documentation
- Utilize infection control and safety protocols appropriately
- Maintain familiarity with practices onsite diagnostic procedures and equipment
- Ensure the professional development of self and team i.e. pursues continuing education opportunities and shares knowledge as appropriate with other members of the health care team; participates in professional organizations; reads professional journals and texts; etc.
- Participate in the practices oncall schedules as needed. Is available for emergency calls from VMG staff or physicians
- Identify opportunities to improve processes reports or systems that take advantage of cost savings employee satisfaction and/or customer satisfaction. Promotes and practices economical and effective healthcare
- Completes in a timely manner all managed care applications credentialing and recredentialing requests from the corporate office
