Job Description
At Mi Escuela Montessori all classrooms have a minimum of 2 supervising educators (lead teachers and assistant teachers). When one teacher is not available due to medical or personal reasons the other teacher leads the classroom and the substitute teacher assists the lead teacher.
The Substitute Teacher will need to effectively manage and instruct the class from roll call through to tidying up the classroom after the students have left. Some of the Substitute Teachers duties and responsibilities include:
Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
Supervise students in and out of the classroom including in the halls on the playground and in the cafeteria
Provide inclass and athome assignments as needed based on the available lesson plan
For longterm substitutes: develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teachers past lesson plans

The benefit of this position is that it does have a flexible schedule. You can accept substitute teaching assignments on the days and/or shifts when you are available
Requirements:
- Have a strong belief that every child has a unique & powerful gift to share with the world
- Associates degree or 60 credit hours
- 1 year(s) experience working with students
- Strong ability to manage a classroom of students
- Willingness to complete additional training if necessary (DCF 45 hours)
- Ability to pass a State & FBI background check
A strong candidate for the Substitute Teacher position will possess the following skills and qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or higher preferably in education
- Strong English and/or Spanish verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead and instruct students of all ages
- General knowledge of several subjects
- Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms
- Flexibility and criticalthinking skills
- Patience
