About the Job
As the Health & Safety Manager Environmental Division you will lead the development and of a corporate health and safety program while mentoring and driving safetyrelated change across all levels of the organization. You will provide leadership and resources to support the goal of providing a safe working environment for all employees visitors and contractors and oversee a team of Health and Safety Professionals.
Reporting directly to the VP Health and Safety this Health and Safety Manager position can be based out of either our Oakville or Niagara Falls location.
What Youll Be Doing
- Facilitates and manages safety related culture change initiatives and strategic planning to support the goal of providing a safe work environment in the Environmental Division.
- Provides site visits and investigates all serious incidents to identify potential hazards make recommendations for improvements and ensure compliance with safety regulations in the Environmental Division.
- Provides direction and leadership to Safety Coordinators Operations Management and employees to ensure that all business units within the Division operate in accordance with regulations and legislation as well as the corporate Safety Management System (SMS) policies procedures and best working practices.
- Supports the thirdparty handling of injury claims ensuring the interests of the company are protected while ensuring fair treatment of employees.
- Evaluates trends and reports statistical information from our EHS software to senior management to meet Key Performance Indicator (KPI) and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Provides safety support for all business units in the Environmental Division by attending site management operations and senior management meetings as applicable.
- Develops and maintains effective relations with regulatory agencies such as WCB/WSIB MLITSD/government labour inspectors and other safety related associations to keep current with legislative changes and ensure compliance.
- Oversees workloads and provides staff supervision to ensure that work is done accurately efficiently and complies with budgets policies procedures and regulations as well as best working practices.
- Provides guidance motivation and performance review including hiring performance management and terminating employees to maintain and enhance competency levels identify future training requirements and achieve goals to increase performance.
Heres What You Need
- University degree in a related field with postgraduate certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
- More than seven 7 years but less than or equal to ten 10 years of health & safety experience is preferred.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) preferred.
- A valid Drivers License in good standing is required.
- Experience with EHS software applications like eCompliance.
- Strategic thinker looking to longterm implications of decisions related to health and safety.
- Superior ability to facilitate training sessions and education to colleagues in a clear and understandable manner.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and oversee staff delegate and provide constructive performance feedback and coaching to optimal performance.
- Business acumen superior understanding of quality standards relative to health and safety initiatives.
- Communicates well in writing by composing clear documents; facility with editing and/or proofreading is required. Clear oral communications are required to issue instructions to staff and to comprehend verbal reports at all levels of the organization.
- Professional manner tact diplomacy and discretion in dealing with general public colleagues including senior management.
