Job Description

Title: Summer Academy Associate Instructor Math

Reports To: National Teaching & Learning Manager

FLSA: Parttime Seasonal

Location: Guilford County North Carolina (Remote)

Dates:

  • PreSemester Orientation and Asynchronous Training: Begins in June exact dates to come

Programming Dates: MondayFriday July 125

Compensation: $32/hr

There will also be future Saturday opportunities for Fall and Spring semesters.

Position Overview

Associate Instructors will join SEOs community of passionate educators to implement a rigorous college prep curriculum for motivated and driven high school students. Associate Instructors coteach alongside Instructors to facilitate classroom instruction teach mini lessons organize small group and oneonone instruction and provide additional Scholar support. Associate Instructors are the first to cover when there is an instructor absence and do not have grading responsibilities. Associate Instructors coteach Math for 10th or 11th grade Scholars as well as coteach one block of Advisory.

SEO North Carolina is a bichronous program for Scholars with 100 online lesson instruction facilitated through Zoom.

The Courses

Associate Instructors will be placed depending on their selfreported proficiency and demo lesson.

The math courses offered at SEO include:

  • Numbers and Operations Graphs and Relationships and Algebra/Pattern and Structure Courses

Skills include: properties of numbers; expressions equations and identities; ratio and rate; percentages; proportional reasoning; irrational numbers; linear quadratic and exponential functions (including compound growth formula); algebraic representation of functions; graphing functions and identifying key characteristics; modeling realworld situations with functions; systems of equations and inequalities; algebra with exponents; fractional exponents and roots; algebra with rational expressions and equations; properties 2D and 3D geometric figures; introduction to coordinate geometry.Trigonometry Precalculus and SAT Math CoursesSkills include: triangle geometry and special triangles; trigonometric functions; inverse trig functions; radian measure; the unit circle; graphing and modeling with sine and cosine functions; unit analysis; function notation including function composition and inverse functions; characteristics of graphs; transformations of graphs; average rate of change; introduction to limits; introduction to the derivative and the power rule; and content covered on the new digital SAT.

For Summer 2025 the following math courses will be offered:

  • 10th Math: Graphs and Relationships
  • 11th Math: Precalculus

Math Associate Instructors also coteach one period of our Advisory course. This course is designed to prepare Scholars for academic and social success. Throughout their time in SEOs High School Scholars program Advisory includes two courses Identity & Empowerment (IE) and Level All. Level All is a college and career readiness partner. 911th grade lessons are organized by the following 5 themes: Preparing for Success in High School Career Exploration Affording College College Exploration and Decision Making College Applications and Admissions.

Based on Math Associate Instructors grade placements they will facilitate the following Advisory course:

  • 10th Grade The Power of My Academic Identity

11th Grade Identity and Motivation

Dates Times and Hours:

  • Selfguided Asynchronous Instructor Training: New Instructional staff will complete Asynchronous Training that equates to 10 hours of work. This can be completed on your own time and will be completed prior to the start of programming.
  • Instructor Orientation: Wednesday June 4th 5:30pm on Zoom
  • Summer Academy: 7/17/3 7/77/10 7/147/17 7/217/24

Professional Development: 7/11 7/18 7/25

  • Standard Hours are when the associate instructor must be working online with staff or students instructing/coteaching a class or engaging with an instructional prep or support period:
    • MondayThursday 8:45am1:30pm about 5 Hours/day
    • Friday PD 9:30am12:30pm 3 hours
  • Flex Hours make up the additional teacher work educators know go into the job. This is time spent preparing for the lesson following up with Scholars communicating with staff and Scholars etc. These are hours put in outside of the required schedule and can be completed asynchronously throughout the week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Online Instruction & Facilitation CoTeach four to five periods including Math and Advisory classes. When asked to cover for another instructor Associate Instructors will lead the class on their own. Follow provided lesson plans and meet lesson objectives abiding by SEOs articulated criteria for rigorous instruction and student engagement.

Navigate Instructional Technologies Learn and efficiently utilize our instructional technologies such as Brightspace (Learning Management System) Desmos GSuit applications and Zoom chat (instant messaging tool) in a Blended Learning environment.Content Preparation Read internalize and practice all lesson plans and materials provided by SEO prior to teaching. Implement thoughtful adjustments to pacing and activities based on specific student needs.

  • Classroom Culture Project an energetic engaging and approachable persona to promote students connection to the content investment in the learning experience and positive relationship to all members of the community.
  • Collaboration with SEO Staff and Instructors Plan and work alongside an Instructor to build optimal experiences for Scholar learning in coteaching and/or single instruction models. Attend all scheduled meetings professional development trainings checkins and debriefs and respond to all emails and Zoom chats in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree in content related field
  • Teaching certification K12 classroom teaching experienceEducation Degree and Certification (teaching certification does not have to be in 912 high school education) and/or experience teaching at the college or university level
  • Experience working with high schoolaged students
  • Comfortable with navigating and skilled at navigating technological learning systems
  • Expertise and depth of knowledge in advanced high schoollevel Mathematics

Preferred:

  • Understanding and practice of studentcentered pedagogy
  • Online Course Facilitation Experience
  • Knowledge and experience with Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • Certifications PD course completions and/or tertiary education in Instructional Technologies
  • Experience with Online Learning (or elearning) Tutoring or Instruction other than Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT)
  • North Carolina resident with teaching experience in NC schools.



COMPENSATION

This position is benefits ineligible in accordance with local state and federal regulations.

The compensation listed in this posting reflects what SEO believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law compensation will be determined based on the skills qualifications and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position and SEO reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time.
