Job Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the STRATUS Center for Medical Simulation Operations Manager the incumbent will provide technical support for all simulation operations including but not limited to course preparation maintenance and repair of computerized mannequins (software and hardware) task trainers and related multimedia peripherals. This opportunity is perfect for recent graduates especially premed students seeking valuable experience as medical professionals. As Simulation Specialists you will be able to work closely with seniorlevel clinical and managerial faculty and staff gaining invaluable handson experience in simulation.

• Bachelors degree preferred in a relevant field such as biology chemistry premed neuroscience exercise physiology etc.
• One year of previous experience as a healthcare professional (e.g. EMT medical technician scribe research assistant simulation operations specialist).
• Ability to lift/carry/maneuver equipment weighing roughly 25 lbs.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Utilize and operate different simulation technologies including anatomic models task trainers highfidelity computerbased simulators and virtual realitybased simulators.
• Perform opening and closing procedures of the Center and ensure all rooms are locked at the end of each shift.
• Serve as simulation operator controlling manual and preprogrammed scenarios with course directors or designated faculty including physicians APRNs RNS and senior hospital clinical leadership for onsite in situ and hospital mock code simulationbased programs.
• Set up courses as specified within the curriculum and perform breakdown and equipment checks for the course.
• Advise course directors and allied faculty members in designing the operational component of a simulationbased educational curriculum.
• Develop simulationbased trainers and anatomical models and utilize 3D Printing software.
• Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment related to all hospital professions. This includes completing monthly inventory checklists obtaining quotes and making purchasing recommendations to the Operations Manager based on the simulation centers needs.
• Provide recommendations for improving operational systems new equipment needs and improvement in the quality of the curriculum development process.
• Participate in Curriculum in Development Committee Simulation Review Committee and Operations Team meetings.
• Participate in the ongoing maintenance program for all simulationbased equipment medical devices capital equipment and the Center as a whole including cleaning testing troubleshooting repairing replacement parts and ensuring all equipment is in good working order.
• Liaise with equipment manufacturers and clinicians regarding equipment and software upgrades updates and beta testing initiatives.
• Maintain current knowledge of simulation equipment inventory catalogs and operational manuals.
• Assist with the development and of simulationbased research projects.
• Assist with the development and of external business when necessary including leading simulation programs within our partnering entities in MGB.
• Participate in STRATUS tours to all visitors and externally based programs.
• Participate in technical training as necessary.
• Participate in the BWH Observation Program for USGuided CVC Placement as part of the BWH Quality and Safety Improvement Program to reduce central line infections.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Selfmotivated requiring little to no supervision to work effectively in a team environment.
• Knowledge of patient simulation technologies and applications including hardware and software preferred.
• Knowledge of educational program design and development related to operations including but not limited to developing schedules scenario design and equipment needs.
• Knowledge of audio/video equipment and software for recording streaming duplication mixing and editing.
• Ability to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently.
• Capacity to assess troubleshoot and fix equipment failures promptly.
• Excellent computer skills including Outlook email Microsoft Office software (Word Excel PowerPoint) Zoom teleconferencing platform and sitespecific software. Knowledge of Mac O/S is beneficial.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills necessary to engage successfully and courteously with diverse staff students visitors vendors etc.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments and sensitive issues.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills attention to detail and the ability to negotiate and problemsolve.
• Strong analytical and organizational abilities to make effective decisions quickly while maintaining highquality customer service standards.
• Capacity to maintain a composed demeanor under stressful conditions.
• Ability to foster a team environment and work independently and as a team member.
• Robust independent judgment skills to multitask organize work and set priorities.
