We are seeking a talented individual to lead the Financial Controllership function for the Pacific region at Marsh McLennan. This role will be based in either Melbourne or Sydney This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

This role is responsible for overseeing the accounting financial reporting and control environment ensuring compliance with regulatory standards tax and audit requirements and internal controls for the Marsh McLennan business within the Pacific region. This role leads the Pacific Controllership team in driving financial performance continuous improvement initiatives and strategic insights across the region. Additionally this role places a strong emphasis on stakeholder management collaborating and liaising with Finance and Business leaders external auditors Audit Committee and senior leadership across the company along with interfacing with various entity Boards.

We will count on you to:

  • Provide proactive leadership and management for the Pacific Controllership team focusing on staff development and mentorship while overseeing all accounting decisions for the region.
  • Foster and maintain strong stakeholder engagement by actively partnering with Finance and Business colleagues in daytoday operations and special projects ensuring alignment of financial strategies with business objectives while driving continuous improvement and participating in integrations resulting from mergers and acquisition.
  • Maintain knowledge of the regulations and reporting requirements for the Mercer Superannuation business in Australia.
  • Oversee internal financial controls and compliance ensuring final approval of P&L and balance sheet production as well as supplemental financial information required by the company.
  • Coordinate yearend statutory financials audit and tax financial requirements ensuring compliance with regulatory and tax regulations.
  • Present financial statements and regularly update Board members including Audit Committees providing insights and individual accounting judgments.
  • Ensure proper of internal controls including US GAAP reporting and maintain approval authority for compliance with the global SOX regime and global policies and approval procedures.

What you need to have:

  • Minimum 15 years progressive financial controller experience including leadership role(s). Superannuation sector regulatory and reporting knowledge and experience is an advantage as is US GAAP experience.
  • Undergraduate qualifications are required as are appropriate accounting qualifications (CA or CPA). A Master of Business Administration is desirable.
  • Progressive financial management and controllership experience in an international and geographically distributed corporation.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and influence in a complex matrix environment as well as lead manage and embrace change within a transforming organization to challenge the status quo.
  • Excellent technical skills including accounting tax treasury project finance cash flow management legal and management reporting systems implementation.
  • Strong business acumen along with a good understanding of the critical business drivers across all business lines.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in driving a business and financial agenda from a controllership perspective while also remaining focused on major strategic issues facing the organization as it moves forward.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization including Executive Leadership Teams and Board members and to complete objectives utilizing the commitment and cooperation of others to foster consensus and collaboration across diverse teams.
  • Capable of managing and maintaining good relationships with external providers including regulatory bodies and accounting firms.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to urgent requests and changing priorities in an evolving environment.
