You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailWe have an exciting opportunity for a Biocontainment Technician to join our ARC team. With minimal supervision from the supervisor or manager this person provides basic murine husbandry facility sanitation and technical services support to the murine model experimentation conducted in the Murine Biosafety Level 2/3containment facility of the Murine Resource Center. The Biocontainment Technician will be required to provide the necessary training to the users and ARC technicians on biocontainment practices including entry and exit requirements.

Job Responsibilities:
Ability to obtain and maintain Department of Justice FBI Security Risk Assessment (SRA) approval and USDA/CDC Select Agent Program approval. This includes initial and periodic drug screenings.
Provides humane care and handling of the laboratory murine that are housed in the ABSL2/3 biocontainment facilities (e.g. providing food and water cleaning cages) in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Performs daily observations of the Murines and reports all abnormalities to the manager veterinary staff and the research staff.
Establishes and maintains various murine breeding colonies or other species as directed; maintains associated breeding records in accordance with specific research needs
Assists the research staff or biocontainment manager with the performance of routine technical procedures (e.g. administration of blood collection injections handling anesthesia weighing of Murines euthanasia).
Performs sanitation procedures of Murine holding rooms cubicles isolators and common areas of the ABSL2/3 facilities and operates equipment such as an autoclave to decontaminate materials and equipment that leave the ABSL2/3 containment facilities.
Performs daily environmental monitoring (temperature humidity light cycle function and directional air flow etc. in the ABSL2/3 biocontainment facilities.
Performs daily facility inspections and prepares work orders to initiate repairs by Facilities Operations and Maintenance
Performs periodic inspections of safety equipment to ensure that equipment functions correctly. Notifies supervisor and research staff when equipment is inoperable. Records and maintains records of inspections.
Maintains records documenting the performance of Murine care facility sanitation vermin control the disposition of Murines housed in the ABSL2/3 biocontainment facilities facility inspections and environmental monitoring in accordance with standard operating procedures to comply with the institutional registration with the USDA as a site for the use of select agents and with Murine welfare regulations.
Works collaboratively with the research staff manager of biocontainment veterinary staff and the managers and supervisors of Murine husbandry and cage wash to stage equipment and supplies needed to conduct Murine experiments in a safe and timely manner.
Maintains adequate stock of personal protective equipment supplies and materials that are needed to provide care to the Murines and ensure the personal safety of the staff of the ABSL2/3 facilities.
Performs routine security checks to ensure that unauthorized personnel are not allowed access to the ABSL2/3 biocontainment facilities.
Complies with policies procedures and regulations related to biohazard safety and operations.
Under go timely training and retraining under the guidance of the biocontainment supervisor/manager and train users and husbandry technicians on biocontainment practices.
Performs other related duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
High School diploma/GED required
Bachelors degree in Murine biological or related science preferred
Minimum Experience:
Two 2 years of experience in a laboratory Murine care facility that includes one 1 year of Murine technical experience required
Experience in a biohazard containment facility is preferred
Certification REQUIRED and/or PREFERRED :
ALAT LAT or LATG Certification by the American Association of Laboratory Murine Science (AALAS) required within 18 months of hire. Continued participation in AALAS certification system preferred.
Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets experience and training licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
