Job Description

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Legal to lead the legal function of our FMCG company in Durban. The ideal candidate will be an admitted attorney or advocate with strong commercial law expertise and the ability to serve as a Company Secretary if required. This role requires a strategic thinker with a solid understanding of corporate governance risk management and compliance to support the companys objectives and mitigate legal risks.


Key Requirements:
  • Admitted attorney/advocate with LL.B. or equivalent qualification.
  • 3 5 years postadmission legal experience preferably in corporate or commercial law.
  • At least 510 years of commercial law experience ideally within the FMCG or a related industry.
  • Strong understanding of corporate governance and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to serve as Company Secretary ensuring regulatory and statutory compliance.
  • Excellent negotiation communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment and manage multiple stakeholders effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal counsel and strategic guidance on all legal matters affecting the company including contracts regulatory compliance litigation and corporate governance.
  • Draft review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements to ensure the companys best interests are protected.
  • Ensure compliance with local and international laws and regulations applicable to the FMCG industry.
  • Manage legal risks and provide proactive legal solutions to mitigate potential exposure.
  • Oversee and manage litigation and disputes liaising with external legal counsel when necessary.
  • Advise on employment law matters intellectual property and regulatory affairs.
  • Act as Company Secretary when required ensuring corporate governance and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and implement legal policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Support the Chairman and senior management on strategic legal matters and corporate decisionmaking.
