Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: - Conceptualizes designs and develops optical lensing solutions for new lighting applications
- Evaluates and verifies optical designs from concept to mass production to meet requirements for specific applications.
- Performs detailed optical designs raytracing simulations tolerance analysis and actively supports design documentation including material and light source selection.
- Proficient using CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
- Actively participates in prototype builds design verification and validation testing of components and systems from concept through product certification stages.
- Responsible for determining LED sources to be used in the design.
- Guides mechanical engineers in the design of mechanical assemblies of optical elements and sources of illumination. Actively collaborates with electrical engineers in the design of electronics for driving illumination sources or control systems.
- Analyzes and interprets lighting standards and regulatory requirements pertinent to optical design and function.
- Conducts competitive benchmarking analysis to understand and advance the state of the art for all aspects of solidstate lighting for commercial vehicle and general lighting applications.
- Forward lighting optics subject matter expert.
- Basic knowledge of injection molding processes and effects on manufacturability
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to function effectively as part of a larger team.
- Proficient using Word and Excel.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects effectively.
- Strong general communications skills both verbal and written.
Preferred Knowledge/Skill/Abilities: - Preferred candidates will have prior experience in the design of complex reflector and optical lenses (TIR Projector Collimator etc.
- Automotive exterior lighting design background strongly preferred
- Experience implementing solutions that meet FMVSS SAE NFPA CCR Triple K regulations
- Experience creating optical designs that satisfy USCG and COLREGS standards
- Experience using TracePro lens optics analysis software is a plus
- Strong multivariate analysis skills are highly recommended
Education and Experience Requirements: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Optics or Physics is required (M.S. preferred). Minimum of 35yrs of related optical design/photometry experience. Must be U.S. citizen not requiring sponsorship. Benefits: - Medical/Dental/Vision
