Job Description

Position Summary

Hopkins Lacy the Mechanical Electrical Plumbing (MEP) Division of Branch is searching for askilled teamoriented Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing Superintendent to join our wellestablished growing company. This position works closely with the Superintendent to ensure success of the project.

Duties/Responsibilities

The Contract

  • Supervises completion of the MEP Portions of the project in accordance with all project contract documents plans and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with all building codes and local ordinances. Confirms permit requirements and documents inspections in accordance with company and regulatory guidelines.
  • Becomes thoroughly familiar with project contract documents plans specifications subcontracts purchase orders shop drawings key dates (milestones substantial completion and completion) liquidated damages and all other documents related to the project.
  • Inspects job site and documents any preexisting conditions (Photographs or videos if deemed necessary).
  • Identifies measures and reports to Superintendent MEP work changes as they pertain to the contract documents. Participates in pricing of changed/additional work. Documents or delegates documentation of all additional work performed via daily reports/Superintendents diaries.

Schedule

  • Works with Project Manager to develop MEP schedule that is consistent with companys responsibilities and commitments. Reviews schedule during project to ensure deadlines are met notifies appropriate parties of all delays or potential delays and documents delays. With the project manager ensures that schedule is updated.
  • Preplans and communicates project activities using short interval schedules as required. Attends preconstruction and construction meetings. Constantly verifies material and resource delivery requirements and ensures adequate flow as to not impede progress. Plans ahead.
  • Identifies and manages work on critical path. Identifies potential and actual work slippages and develops and implements recovery plan. Reports slippages to Project Manager. Focuses on critical path items or near critical work items. Delivers project on schedule.
  • Effectively utilizes resources i.e. people equipment and materials.
  • Supervises MEP subcontractors to ensure quality and schedule requirements. Advises appropriate parties of subcontractors performance if applicable.
  • Organizes all MEP trades in relation to project schedule.
  • Keeps work in process to a minimum and embraces the concept of Done Done Done.

Duties/Responsibilities Cont.

Budget

  • Prior to construction reviews with Project Manager and submits comments on detail budget time restraints cost codes and purchase control.
  • Reviews cost status report for accuracy and integrity. Investigates and takes corrective action in areas of indicated or potential overruns. Maintains or improves margin through wellplanned and improved operations.
  • Supplies feedback to estimating for future projects and post mortem. In conjunction with estimating identifies key items to track and document production for future use.
  • Accurately documents labor and equipment usage so the costs reflect the actual work performed in the field.

Quality

  • Establishes a contractually acceptable level of quality by which all completed MEP work is measured. Communicates same.
  • Is responsible for daytoday quality control of MEP work and ensures that work conforms to Contract requirements and company standards. Proactively identifies and corrects nonconforming work expeditiously and competently.
  • Prepares and completes a MEP contractor punch list prior to architect / owner punch list.
  • Manages architects / owners punch list.
  • Finishes work as they go so the punch list is short. Expects the same of all subcontractors.
  • Leads the field process for equipment startup commissioning and owner training for MEP systems.

Safety

  • Is in direct charge of safety and accident/incident control for the project. Understands communicates and enforces safety policy on project at all times. Demonstrates a safety conscious behavior for other employees to emulate.
  • Investigates and reports all incidents and nearmisses to the Safety Department & management.
  • Is responsible for onsite safety meetings and implementation of effective safety programs.
  • Is responsible for meeting all OSHA and VOSHA standards and the enforcement of Miss Utility policy for entire project.
  • Assures that project is maintained in an orderly clean secure and professional manner.

3 years of experience as an MEP Superintendent.

Travel

Extensive travel to jobsites in Roanoke VA and surrounding areas.

Supervisory Responsibility

Directly supervises three to eight employees and consultants involved in each project. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing hiring and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a fulltime position which will typically involve 40 hours a week. Due to the nature of the job the employee must be available oncall early/late hours to deal with delays bad weather and emergencies at the job site.
