Job Description

LIST OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES:

1. Make plate cylinders ensuring they fit appropriately down to each detail.

2. Make gears figuring and ensuring correct dimensions using gear shaper.

3. Repair machine breakdowns as needed.

4. Build up grind and reweld shafts.

5. Weld various items made of steel cast iron aluminum and stainless steel; braze or weld brass.

6. Handle sheet metal work such as making guards and ink pans.

7. Work on special projects as assigned.

8. Handle dismantling and rebuilding work.

9. Grind rubber rolls.

10. Make parts needed ensuring that specifications are correct.

11. Cut shafts.

12. Draw blueprints and sketches of work.

13. Assist lower level Machinists.

14. Keep equipment clean and work area clean.

15. Meet/achieve production goals set forth by management.

16. Perform job safely and follow set task procedures.

17. Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by management.

WORK EXPERIENCE TRAINING AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Must be able to read write perform basic math and understand dimensions. Should have machinist training. Must have mastered all Level II duties and pass entrance test to Level I (working test).

TECHNICAL SKILLS NEEDED:

Will need solid understanding of company machinery in order to handle job duties. Will need ability to set up and run lathes and milling machines (Bridgeport) safely. Must have all skills needed for entrance into Level I plus ability to draw blueprints make cylinders and ink pans chaise threads make complete parts and determine correct specifications.

ANY OTHER ABILITY NEEDED:

Must have own tools. Should be able to guide lower level Machinist as necessary.

DESCRIBE WHY THESE ARE NEEDED:

Should be able to detect problems understand specifications and carry out solutions. Must be able to communicate well with the Machine Shop Supervisor and other Machinists. Must be flexible enough to work with machinery and related tools. Must know how to apply machine knowledge effectively. Must be able to work independently because they may work on shifts with no supervision.

WHAT MACHINES OR TOOLS ARE USED:

Micrometers indicators Tgauge variety of hand wrenches and hand tools lathes milling machines drills and welders. Gear hobbing machine cut off saws torches etc..

PERCENTAGE OF TIME WORKING AROUND MACHINERY: 100

WHAT WORKING CONDITIONS WILL THIS POSITION ENCOUNTER:

Will be exposed to dirt dust noise heat flame cleaning solvents and fumes due to factory setting. Will also be exposed to oil and grease. Will need to use gloves and vest while welding. Must wear eye protection at all times in the Machine Shop area. Do not wear gloves when working on lathe mill or drill press.

WHAT MAY RESULT FROM COMMON ERRORS IN THIS POSITION:

Errors in this position can result in problems with equipment safety hazards and excess production downtime.

MAJOR JOB HAZARDS:

Lifting bending burns cuts flying metal particles flying sparks .
