This innovative position is based in the 911 Call Center. The Community Clinical Counselor is responsible for assessing/triaging crisis calls related to mental health and other social service needs for Columbus residents. Clinician in this position will provide all services over the phone only such as crisis intervention linkage to services in the community and follow up with residents experiencing mental health and/ or addiction crisis. RRU Program operates Monday Friday 8:30am 12:00am. Counselor in this PARTTIME position will work flexible days/hours must be able to work Monday and Fridays needs to be available to work minimum 20 hours per week maximum 30 hours per week in order to provide coverage during time frames when fulltime staff is off.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience with crisis intervention and deescalation strong familiarity with communitybased crisis work related to mental illness and substance use. Ability to quickly build rapport and engage others. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse peers and community residents.
Under general supervision is responsible for providing psychological assessment crisis intervention and social services linkage in the community setting and as part of a public safety response team; performs related duties as required.
(May not include all of the duties that may be performed.
Provides direct communitybased crisis response and outreach psychosocial assessment counseling and social services support and linkage with residents experiencing behavioral health and/or addiction crisis;
Responds as part of a public safety team to provide therapeutic and behavioral healthoriented services;
Provides crisis intervention counseling social services support and deescalation techniques via direct outreach and response and/or telecommunications as within a call center environment;provides assessments inperson and via phone to determine lethality concerns;
Promotes and disseminates information and services throughout the community including alcohol/other drug misuse or dependency behavioral health matters and social needs;
Determines level of care and stabilization needs; provides clinical assessment of needs and utilizes current therapeutic principles and techniques;
Conducts linkage to communitybased social services such as housing food and transportation; educates program participants and their families about available resources;
Provides brief case management and necessary followup with community members during crisis situations; provides transition and/or release of cases to longerterm resources;
Responds to requests for assistance from the public law enforcement personnel and community social service organizations as requested;
Operates a computer and telecommunications equipment to enter information for case management generate reports and keep electronic records;
May be requested to appear at scenes of crimes or other intense or escalated environments;
May be assigned to serve as a member of an Incident Command System (ICS) Team or a similar public health response team which may include the conduct of operations on a 24/7 basis at remote locations.
Possession of valid State of Ohio licensure by the Counselor Social Worker and Marriage & Family Therapist Board as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Licensed Professional Counselor Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) AND one 1 year of experience providing counseling services. Substitution(s): A masters degree may be substituted for the one 1 year of experience.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operators license.
Some positions allocated to this classification may require proficiency in a language or languages other than English.
SPECIAL NOTE:
This position may require work in hazardous situations involving response with public safety forces to acute violence involving homicide etc. Incumbents may be required to don body armor and other personal protective equipment.
