Job Title: Structural Engineer
Job Description:
The Structural Engineers responsibilities will include performing and managing simple and complex analysis design and documentation of various structures with emphasis on Steel Structure including but not limited to buildings bridges canopies platforms steel tanks parking structures water and wastewater treatment facilities telecommunications structures foundations structure replacements and rehabilitations as well as conducting field investigation and construction phase observation.
Job Purpose:
The key purpose of this role is to manage a team of engineers/detailers/checkers to deliver innovative structural engineering designs on all projects and other activities that meets and surpasses the expectations of the ASF management architects clients and consultants in relation to: innovative sustainable and intelligent design; and client budgetary constraints; and project program/inhouse timebased targets.
Scope of Responsibilities:
- Perform design and analysis functions for various structures.
- Conduct assessments and evaluations of existing structures.
- Attend meetings with clients consultants other professionals and organizations.
- Develop solutions to challenges presented by the client within budget schedule and project constraints.
- Issue reports schedules estimates of probable costs responses to RFPs.
- Review designs prepared by others as part of a TQM process.
- Manage administer and design structural projects and structural components.
- Deliver innovative sustainable efficient safe practical and intelligent structural engineering solutions on all projects and other activities appropriate to the stage and type of project.
- Manage a team of engineers to produce complete coordinated and highquality project information (calculations drawings specifications and other documents) on time and on budget to meet agreed deadlines and exceed ASF managements/clients/consultant expectations avoid delays on releasing MRFs & FDs.
- To liaise with architects clients consultants and the rest of the design team to ensure that efficient and integrated structural solutions are produced on all projects which are sensitive to the architectural intent.
- Undertake multidiscipline design & coordination activities with all relevant members of the design team.
- Produce project information personally as necessitated by the needs of the business.
- Ensure reviews are conducted sufficiently in advance of all deadlines such that any necessary amendments can comfortably be completed prior to issue as agreed.
- Ensure all designs are thoroughly checked independently and ensure all errors are corrected prior to issue of the documents/drawings.
- Errors or problems should be recorded and discussed with the Design Team Leader/Operations Manager so that corrective action can be taken to avoid such problems in future.
- Design Steel PreEngineered Building (PEB) structures analyze it & prepare reports.
- Able to review preliminary model prepare structural arrangement layout preliminary drawings design calculation lifting calculation connection details welding details. Review fabrication drawings shop drawings & erection drawings give comments (if any) to fix prior to issuance.
- Ensure Health and Safety is considered at all stages of the design process such that the designs produced minimize risk during construction while exceeding the client/architects/consultants expectations.
- Maintain a CDM Designers Risk Register on major projects detailing the process by which all risks were identified and subsequently eliminated or minimized (if required).
- Ensure that adequate notes are added to drawings so that all unusual risks that cannot be eliminated from the design are highlighted to the production/installation team and any specific methods of working or sequencing are described clearly.
- Produce physical and/or computer models of projects as appropriate.
- Ensure all necessary openingup and site investigations are carried out on all projects to properly assess the ground conditions existing buildings and boundary conditions.
- Monitor and record changes in the scope of works and when additional works are required beyond the agreed scope: discuss the matter with the Design Team Leader/Operations Manager; ensure all additional scope are communicated to Sales Dept. & Top Management prior to the work being undertaken; and be careful to avoid upsetting the client or consultant.
- Maintain good clear and proactive communication with all relevant members of the design team to ensure they are aware of our progress and agree realistic dates of issue.
- Attend design team site and client meetings as required by the project administrator and or the Design team Leader/Operations Manager.
- Keep full and accurate written records of all meetings attended telephone discussions etc. in the appropriate project file.
- Inspects work and confers with QC Manager/Welding Engineer to maintain specified standards and quality of welds in compliance with applicable codes.
- Evaluate new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes.
- Ensure high standards of presentation are maintained in all documents issued by Design Dept.
- Ensure compliance with department policies and procedures and applicable laws rule and regulations.
- To undertake any other duties as reasonably required by Design Team Leader/Operations Manager.
Reporting Relationship:
Directly reporting & responsible to the Design Team Leader/Operations Manager for the proper discharge of his duties.
Qualifications Required:
M. Tech. (Structural Eng. B.E. (Civil Eng. In depth knowledge of design soft wares such as ETABS STAAD PRO SOLID WORKS MBS IDEA STATICA TEKLA AUTO CAD MS Office.
Skills Required:
Strong analytical and design skills Excellent skills on Welding details Different Metal Types Good attention to details and accuracy Strong written & verbal Communication Skills Knowledge of Health and Safety Practices Good Supervision Skills Able to independently lead a team of 68 engineers/detailers Minimum 5 years Experience in Structural Steel Design.
