Job Overview:

  • Schedule: 35 hours per week typical working hours Monday to Friday from 10 am 6 pm with flexibility to work nights and weekends
  • Type: Regular Full Time
  • Pay:$85000 annual salary benefits package
  • Location:Fully onsite in the Lower East Side

Through performances exhibitions education programs and residencies Abrons mobilizes communities through the transformative power of art.

About this role:

The Director of Production oversees the strategy and theatrical facility operations for Abrons Arts Center inclusive of our 3 theaters 2 galleries outdoor amphitheater and scene shop. You will model and maintain a safe positive collaborative and professional environment for production overhire and full time production department team members. You will collaborate with the Operations department on theatrical maintenance and capital projects projects as well lead the production management for the Arts Centers rental client portfolio.

You will manage a Production Manager Audio Visual Specialist and Lighting Specialist and will report to the Vice President of Visual and Performing Arts.

You have:

  • Minimum of 5 years of production management experience
  • Confidence in managing multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
  • An advanced working knowledge of techniques methods and procedures of theater dance and music productions including stage scenic rigging sound and lighting design/implementation stage management and appropriate safety precautions and procedures
  • Advanced skills in Vectorworks Lightwright Office software and general proficiency with computer systems

You will:

  • Maintain the functionality and safeguarding of the technical assets of the Arts Centers Production Department including supervising the use of lighting sound communications equipment and the use and maintenance of stage facilities
  • Manage budget for production department inclusive of approving theatricalrelated purchase orders and check requests
  • Plan and implement theatrical capital and equipment grant applications and implementation in collaboration with the Operations and Development teams
  • Be the lead production manager for rental client portfolio programs
  • Approve the hiring and onboarding processes of per diem production crew members
  • Troubleshoot technical challenges as they arise with calm care and creativity

Essential Physical Job Functions:

  • Must be New York City based
  • Certified Public Assembly (F03 and S95 certification holder
  • Possessing or open to receiving deescalation training
  • Must be COVID19 vaccinated
  • Must be able to move throughout our 40000 square foot facility that includes stairs ramps indoor and outdoor spaces.
  • A current drivers license is a plus as well as confidence driving a 15seat passenger van throughout New York City
