CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS
Positions allocable to this journeylevel class typically report to an Electronics Communications Technician Supervisor.

These positions require incumbents to exercise knowledge of the protocols procedures techniques and equipment used to maintain repair test configure and install fixed mobile and portable radio communications and related equipment.

Individual positions may have specialized assignments within functional areas such as fixed and mobile twoway public safety radio; microwave transmission; command and control; and helicopter and light aircraft communications.

Incumbents frequently lift tools supplies and equipment weighing 10 25 pounds and occasionally over 25 pounds. Equipment installation repair and replacement duties require incumbents to regularly use 6foot and taller ladders and perform tasks that require bending stooping squatting twisting and reaching. Physical dexterity color perception and visual acuity are required for working with colorcoded wires and cables.

Essential Job Functions

Maintains specialized aviation electronic equipmentby inspecting testing repairing configuring and replacing equipment in order to ensure: a) the equipment is in compliance with the manufacturers specifications and b) aircrews can perform their mission.

Assists quality assurance inspectors when Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification is requiredby recommending procedures and inspecting/testing equipment in order to maintain compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).

Performsinflight troubleshooting by flying with flight crews observing equipment operations determining solutions recommending equipment etc. in order to ensure equipment is in compliance with the manufacturers specifications.

Adaptscommercial equipment for specialized uses by creating interfacing solutions in order to meet flight crew mission requirements.

Ordersspecialized aviation electronics equipment parts and supplies as neededby identifying needs and informing purchasers in order to ensure parts and supplies are available.

Keepsairframetimes materials and service records by using a computer entering information reviewing/analyzing information etc. in order to maintain airworthiness.

Participates in the setup and operation of tactical airtoground communications systems by installing testing maintaining radio and antenna systems in order to ensure critical radio communications capabilities.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

Specialty Requirements:
Four years of experience in the installation maintenance and repair of aircraft radio communications transmitting and receiving equipment one year of which must have been at the journey level. *

VISION:Vision and color perception must be adequate to effectively and safely perform essential jobrelated functions.

LICENSE(S)

AvalidGeneral Radiotelephone Operator License issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). **

AvalidCalifornia Class C Driver License*** is required to perform jobrelated essential functions. All applicants must possess a valid California Class C Driver License at the time of appointment.

Outofstate applicants must have a valid license from the state in which they reside at the time of filing. Outofstate applicants will be required to obtain a California Class C Driver License prior to appointment.

***Successful applicants for this position will be required to obtain a copy of his / her driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before being appointed. A copy of your driving record must be presented at the time of your appointment. PHYSICAL CLASS
Physical Class III Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending stooping squatting twisting reaching working on irregular surfaces occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds and frequent lifting of 1025 pounds.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION
*Journeylevel experience applies to a person who has completed an apprenticeship program or is an experienced worker not a trainee and is fully qualified and able to perform a specific trade without supervision.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE
As part of this application process applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire. The questionnaire contains a preinvestigative questionnaire which will be utilized as part of the background investigation process to ensure applicants meet the standards set forth by the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department. Applicants who fail the preinvestigative questionnaire will be disqualified and will have to wait twelve 12 months from the date of the disqualification in order to reapply.

EXAMINATION CONTENT

This examination will consist of a structured interview assessing applied experience and training; technical knowledge; troubleshooting; active learning; attention to detail; interpersonal relations; customer contact; technical translation; safety; and oral communicationsweighted 100.


CANDIDATES MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70 OR HIGHER ON THE EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE REGISTER.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve 12 months following the date of promulgation. Applicants will be processed on an asreceived basis and promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.

NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE 12 MONTHS.

SPECIAL INFORMATION

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES MUST COMPLETE A THOROUGH BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION INCLUDING FINGERPRINT SEARCH.
Examples of disqualifying factors include: Any felony convictions; job related misdemeanor convictions; certain serious traffic convictions or patterns of traffic violations 3 moving violations in one year; failure to appear; at fault accidents; suspended license; driving under the influence); poor credit history; poor employment history; substance abuse; anyone on probation.

ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY IF HIRED
The Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department (Department) has a zero tolerancepolicy for its employees for the following:
