THOMPSON PUBLIC SCHOOLSSPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONALSalary: Per ContractReports To: Classroom Teacher Building Administrator and Director of Special EducationGeneral Duties: To assist the student(s) in all aspects of learning opportunities and activities of daily living as well as assist the teacher as needed.Responsibilities:Support students academically across all school settings.Assist with mobility orientation and positioning including lifting and repositioning nonambulatory students as needed.Provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) including toileting hygiene selfcare and feeding.Help students develop organizational skills and foster positive relationships with peers and adults.Supervise students during unstructured times such as lunch recess and transitions.Escort and assist students as needed within the school environment.Maintain a clean and organized learning environment by assisting with classroom materials and displays.Under teacher supervision review student work and provide additional practice to strengthen skills.Participate in team meetings to discuss instructional strategies and student progress.Support behavior management strategies and assist in implementing discipline procedures when required.Collect and document student data as requested.Complete Safety Care training to learn deescalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies.Actively participate in the aquatics program including being in the water with students.Assist students with physical needs during moments of distress including outbursts or elopement.Collaborate effectively with teachers staff and administration to support student success.Facilitate communitybased activities to support students transitional goals.Assist in developing personalized strategies to reinforce academic and behavioral skills.Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher Director of Special Education or their designee.Qualifications: Be of good character Hold a High school Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) Meet Connecticut instructional assistant requirements: Complete at least two years of postsecondary education. 1.
