About the team:
Our team based at the BUTEC Shore Support Base in Kyle of Lochalsh requires an apprentice electrical/mechanical Technician.
Working as part of a team you will support a wide range of shore based and sea operations including:
- The operation maintenance and testing of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) & Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) which include a variety of electronic and mechanical subsystems.
- The operation testing and repair of electronic systems used for the tracking and measurement of radiated noise from underwater vehicles.
- Taking part in preventive/corrective maintenance schedules on a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
- Taking part in local multiskill arrangements including seagoing work and trials activities.
What will I be doing
As an apprentice you will learn and obtain experience in the fundamentals of electrical and/or mechanical engineering. Your first year will primarily be spent at UHI Invernessand thereafter through part time study at BUTEC / UHI Inverness.
During your time at BUTEC Kyle of Lochalsh you will be required toassist with a variety of electrical and mechanical tasks and may work independently on less skilled tasks as you are given more responsibility.

- Being able to identify issues and solve problems
- Being organized and analytical
- Having the strength and stamina for occasional heavy lifting
- Being able to work well alone or as part of a team

- Willing to take ownership on your work
Academic requirements:
- You you need to have obtained or be predicted 4 xNational 5s two atGrades A or B (one of which must be Maths) and two at Grades A D
or
- satisfactory attainment of a relevant SCQF Level 5 course in a related subject (which included maths content at SCQF Level 5
Apprenticeship:
- You will be undertaking the SCQF Level 6 Modern Engineering Apprenticeship Electronic Pathway. You must be able to travel to the training provider; travel costs will be funded by QinetiQ within policySCQF Level 6/7 Engineering MultiSkilled (Modern Apprenticeship) (uhi.ac)
