Job Description

The Wolf School an innovative independent lower and middle school for children with multiple learning challenges is currently recruiting a full time Occupational Therapist.The Wolf School inspires Complex Learners to discover confidence compassion and a love of learning to reach their full potential. The Wolf School a small independent day school in East Providence Rhode Island was founded in 1999 to provide a unique educational environment for children with multiple learning differences. The goal was to create a school that would provide children with the opportunity to reach their full academic and social potential. The founding members of the Board including educators clinical specialists and a family created a model that emphasizes the development of core grade level skills taught through a therapeutically guided curriculum. As a result our students make significant gains academically and socially. Today the Wolf School educates up to 75 students in grades K8 from Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Position Overview:The role of Occupational Therapist is to facilitate the design and implementation of clinical interventions and strategies to optimize students regulation and readiness. The Occupational therapist works to improve a childs performance of the tasks and activities they are expected to need to do or want to do in order to fulfill their role as a student. They educate faculty/staff to ensure an understanding of and match between the childs abilities and the expectations placed on them within the school setting. The Occupational Therapist performs task analysis modifies and adapts tasks materials and environments in order to facilitate access to activities and promote independence. Additionally in conjunction with the Speech and Language Pathologist they plan and deliver the social emotional curriculum which fosters the development of selfawareness selfcontrol and interpersonal skills in order to establish a foundation for academic and life success.Duties and Responsibilities:Lead the process of development implementation and coordination of occupational therapy goals within the curriculum Screen assess/evaluate and provide therapeutic intervention Participate in joint planning to ensure occupational therapy goals are embedded in the curriculum Work in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team Attend weekly team planning meetings Review student progress and outcomes and modify intervention programs Communicate with families on a regular basis to update on goals progress and strategies to reinforce at home Provide continual parent and staff education Develop IEPs and Learning Plans and document progress throughout the year Document social emotional curriculum throughout the yearAttend parent teacher conferences three times a year Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current in the occupational therapy fieldOversee student assistive technology skills and needs Support fieldwork OT & COTA students (levels 1 & 2)Contribute to the Wolf School parent blog at a minimum of once per school yearTake part in delivering continuing education to the greater communityMaintain confidentiality as per mandated data privacy lawsAttend weekly staff meetings and school wide eventsOther duties as assignedAdditional Skills/Abilities:Professional judgment and clinical knowledge to develop individualized and classroom programming based on occupational performance deficits in the areas of sensory processing skills play and leisure skills fine and gross motor skills organizational skills and social thinking skills as well as community and work skills. Strong clinical reasoning and professional judgment skills to ensure the safety and progress of the students. Experience delivering sensory integrative therapy in a pediatric setting. Direct supervision may be exercised over support personnel such as Occupational therapy assistants fieldwork students and volunteers. Knowledge of self regulation and executive functioning skills training is highly preferred. Strong oral verbal and written communication skillsAbility to establish rapport with students with complex learning profilesAbility to work on a interdisciplinary team open to giving and receiving feedbackStrong time management skills and ability to manage multiple prioritiesAbility to be flexible and take initiativeBe able to work with multiple distractions and changing prioritiesTake initiative and provide consistent highquality work with minimal supervisionFind creative and effective ways to solve problems able to be flexible open to new ideasCreative thinker and plannerHave strong interpersonal skills that support and engender trustHave a strong sense of self and a good sense of humorPossess a deep sense of communityUnderstand and support multicultural educationMaintain an attitude that encourages teamwork and personal responsibility
