Job Description
The Polysomnographic (PSG) Technologist is knowledgeable of current AASM standards and works under the general supervision of the Sleep Center Supervisor to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. A PSG Technologist can perform the duties defined for a PSG Technician and may provide supervision of other staff. The scope of responsibilities may include: Sleep test scoring: the PSG Technologist will score sleep tests.Staff training: the PSG Technologist will provide inservice training programs for PSG Technicians and PSG TraineesPatient testing: the PSG Technologist will conduct polysomnography diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education as needed to support department volumeRequired Demonstrate effective written and spoken communication skills. Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy. Comply with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) Standards of Conduct. Experience conducting inservice education classes Current CPR or BCLS certification (training must include manikin practice)Required At least 2 years experience in the role of a Sleep Technician.Required Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography. OR Successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one year duration associated with a state licensed and/or a nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and documented proficiency at all competencies required of a PSG Technician.Required Certification by the Board of Registered PSG Technologists as a Registered PSG Technologist and Current BLS certification.
