Position Summary
Executive Summary Indiana University Indianapolis invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management. A thriving research university located in downtown Indianapolis 22534 undergraduate and graduate students IU Indianapolis seeks a forwardthinking leader with the skill to develop innovative and datadriven enrollment strategies in a fastpaced deadlinedriven and complex environment. The Vice Chancellor reports to the IU Indianapolis Chancellor and serves as a member of the Chancellors Cabinet and the Council of Deans . The Vice Chancellor oversees the Division of Enrollment Management which includes Undergraduate Admissions Registrar MilitaryConnected Student Services and Financial Aid and Scholarships. In addition to IU Indianapolis the Division of Enrollment Management provides strategic support for the recruitment enrollment and retention efforts for Indiana Universitys two regional centers: Indiana University Fort Wayne and Indiana University C olumbus. The Vice Chancellor will possess a proven record of increasing enrollment through strategic planning and ; excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated success in managing a multifaceted enrollment operation; and advanced skills in strategic thinking problem solving organization and project management. The successful candidate must also have a history of building strong collaborative partnerships. This will be key to their success at IU Indianapolis. Therefore it is important that the successful candidate continue strengthening Enrollment Managements relationship with oncampus partners including academic units and Deans; Division of Undergraduate Education; Student Affairs; International Affairs; and the Graduate School to name a few. IU Indianapolis is Indianas premier urban research campus and a recognized national leader in health and life sciences research. In 2025 IU Indianapolis received designation as a Research 1 University according to the Carnegie Classification marking its ascension to being a premier urban research university. From the start IU Indianapolis was designed to be an integral part of a revived Indianapolis which has grown to become the 15thlargest city in the nation. Many separately located schools were gathered to form a new campus on 512 acres immediately adjoining a lively downtown. The city of Indianapolis is known for its Hoosier Hospitality and all the excitement and fanfare associated with the Indianapolis 500 Motor Speedway as well as professional and collegiate sports. It has one of the largest childrens museum in the world as well as a collection of monuments and memorials that is only surpassed by our nations capital. Indianapolis has also gained acclaim for its deep roots in the music industry including jazz and R&B a flourishing culinary and brewing scene and thriving cultural institutions. IU Indianapolis has been a major contributor to the citys ascendency just as the citys cultural development high quality of life and reasonable cost of living have helped IU Indianapolis attract outstanding faculty staff and students. Role of the Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management The Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management is responsible for the leadership integration and coordination of student recruitment and enrollment efforts at IU Indianapolis. The Vice Chancellor develops and implements strategic data and insights to address IU Indianapolis challenges in a rapidly changing higher education environment. The Vice Chancellor chairs the Enrollment Management Advisory Council and works collaboratively with others in senior campus administration the deans of the academic units the graduate school international affairs faculty leadership and related campus partners to promote enrollment management as a comprehensive approach toward meeting the campus strategic goals. The Vice Chancellor oversees a budget of approximately $68 million and a division that includes 164 staff. Direct reports to the Vice Chancellor include: Executive Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships Executive Director Undergraduate Admissions Director MilitaryConnected Student Services Registrar and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management In addition the Vice Chancellor will: Serve as the campus leader for all enrollment management efforts including research strategic planning program implementation and assessment. Provide strong advocacy for the goals and needs of enrollment management working collaboratively with campus administration colleagues and the deans to set direction and establish priorities for IU Indianapolis future. Foster a campuswide culture focused on student success service excellence and data informed decisions in alignment with the institutions mission vision values and goals. Represent IU Indianapolis to the campus and larger University in issues related to enrollment management including policy marketing and the resources and tools required for successful outcomes. Lead the development and implementation of IU Indianapolis comprehensive recruitment and enrollment program including market assessment and segmentation brand marketing and promotional strategies and financial aid leveraging. Routinely analyze data both quantitative and qualitative to shape enrollment priorities and develop an enrollment culture that is systematic rigorous highly strategic and fully accountable in its approach and . Establish and maintain positive working relationships with University academic and administrative departments in order to develop the key messages for the academic strengths of the University. Opportunities and Expectations for Leadership The Vice Chancellor will join an institution that was formed with a bold and unique vision. Building upon over 50 years of institutional success and progress the Vice Chancellor will optimize IU Indianapolis enrollment for the future and harness its strengths in imagining developing and executing an ambitious plan for enrollment management. This is a position of impact and the Vice Chancellor will be able to seize the opportunities for a dynamic institution committed to transforming the lives of its students its community and the world. In addition the Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management will be expected to: Provide visionary and strong leadership in dynamic times. The nature of the IU Indianapolis student body is changing every year and the University is highly motivated to address the current and future national demographic trends and market challenges that have impacted student enrollment in recent years. The Vice Chancellor will lead the envisioning of future enrollment management at the undergraduate level and provide support for enrollment planning at the graduate and professional level as a colleague and institutional leader. The new leader will be responsible for championing campuswide programs and designing and implementing in broad collaboration with the various constituencies of the University the steps and strategies that will make the vision for enrollment a reality. Develop strategies that support growth. The Vice Chancellor will lead the exploration of standard and creative opportunities for expanding enrollment to 4000 beginner undergraduate students. As the urban research campus and the states health sciences campus situated in the states capital city and economic engine IU Indianapolis possesses numerous advantages and opportunities as it moves forward. Enrollment strategies will be influenced by factbased datainformed decision making using thorough research and analysis as a guiding principle. The Vice Chancellor will explore all possibilities for enrollment growth. Immediate priorities include: Within a competitive and fast changing local regional national and international higher education environment the Vice Chancellor will identify opportunities to stand out and convey the strengths that IU Indianapolis offers. The Vice Chancellor will consider innovative opportunities for growth across student populations including traditionally aged undergraduate students transfer students adult nearcompleter students nonresident students and veteran and militaryconnected students with the continuous goal of increasing access and diversity. The Vice Chancellor will provide support for graduate and international enrollment as critical components of total University enrollment and institutional health. Continue and expand seamless admission agreements with local high schools Develop a strategic plan for connecting local P12 students with higher education including creative leveraging of space and talent on the IU Indianapolis campus particularly during the summer months. IU Indianapolis accepts nearly 84 of students and yields nearly 25 of students. As the University expands into new markets the Vice Chancellor will develop strategies to increase yield to 40. Engage the IU Indianapolis community in the enrollment effort. The Vice Chancellor will develop and nurture collaborative partnerships within the IU Indianapolis community and beyond. The new leader will be expected to convey the vision for strategic enrollment management and promote a commitment to open conversation and shared goals. While the Vice Chancellor will have many partners across the University a mutually supportive relationship with academic leaders will be essential to success. At the graduate and professional level for international students and IUs two regional centers (IU Fort Wayne and IU Columbus) the Vice Chancellor will serve as a thought partner supporting all the ways in which enrollment success for IU Indianapolis can be achieved. Provide the leadership energy and vision for a highly productive team. This is a position for a skilled leader and team builder. The Vice Chancellor will instill energy spend time getting to know staff and bring further cohesion to a group that is dedicated to their work and the students they serve. The Vice Chancellor will advance a team environment; support the effective communication of goals and objectives; and provide the tools to help the staff grow and develop as a team and individuals. Division of Enrollment Management The Division of Enrollment Management operates from the perspective of enhancing the experience of students from the point of recruitment through graduation which is a designated goal of IU Indianapolis campus strategy . Mission Shaping the future one student at a time. Vision To be a recognized leader in strategic enrollment management by supporting student success and advancing the campus mission. Undergraduate Admissions In 2020 IU Indianapolis made the transition to testoptional admissions. The decision was based on the Universitys commitment to providing access and options to prospective students while also removing potential barriers to help them reach their academic and career goals. In 2024 IUI enrolled 14504 undergraduate students and 8030 graduate and professional students. For the undergraduate class entering in fall 2024 applications were received from 18308 candidates. From those applicants 13787 were selected and 3952 enrolled. The average GPA for the class was 3.46. Nearly 48 of firsttime fulltime students were students of color (including African American American Indian Asian Hispanic/Latinx Pacific Islander and two or more races). Approximately 93 of the class entering in fall 2024 were Indiana residents. Based on overlapping applications the University believes that its most significant beginner competitors are Indiana University Bloomington Purdue West Lafayette and Ball State University. Transfer students comprised approximately 25 of new/entering undergraduates in fall 2024. Applications were received from 2707 prospective transfer students. Financial Aid and Scholarships Theres a reason that U.S. News & World Report named IU Indianapolis as one of 2022s top 70 Best Value national universities. IUIndy strives to make college affordable by maintaining a low cost of attendance offering substantial amounts of financial aid and providing programs to help students minimize debt. IUIndy awarded $196.9 million in financial aid to degreeseeking undergraduates in 202324 including more than $40.8 million in institutional scholarships. The average amount of gift aid was $10793. Registrar The Office of the Registrar supports the instructional mission of IU Indianapolis by serving the needs of faculty staff students alumni and the general public in accordance with academic policies and procedures set forth by the federal government accrediting agencies IU Board of Trustees University faculty and the IU Indianapolis faculty. The office ensures the integrity confidentiality and security of all education records as defined and protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act FERPA . Staff provides timely accurate and efficient enrollment and records maintenance services in support of all credit instruction at IU Indianapolis and strive to provide services related to course scheduling space assignment student enrollment grade processing maintaining student demographic records managing an automated degree progress system publishing the campus bulletin official enrollment certification transcript production degrees processing and ad hoc reporting. The Office of the Registrar encourages growth stimulates creativity supports academics and engagement respects people and differences and promotes communications and participation throughout all areas of the University. MilitaryConnected Student Services MilitaryConnected Student Services maintains compliance with federal state and institutional regulations while navigating changes to VA and DOD policy that affect the campus militaryaffiliated students and University processes. The Office for Veterans and Military Personnel supports veterans and militaryaffiliated students in Indianapolis Fort Wayne and Columbus. The Office supports students from admissions through graduation by helping them understand their military education benefits process necessary paperwork and connect students to IU and community resources. The OVMP works closely with other departments within the Division of Enrollment Management and throughout campus to ensure a smooth transition for students.
