Job Description
Thank you for your interest in employment with Southeastern Louisiana University.
Southeastern Louisiana Universitys Office for FirstYear Success invites applications for a 12month Senior Academic Advisor position. This role is pivotal in fostering firstyear student success through personalized academic advising coaching teaching and staff development.Position Responsibilities:
Provide oneonone guidance to firstyear students on course selection registration major and career exploration and decisionmaking related to their academic plan
Offer tailored academic coaching and support referring students to appropriate University offices for specialized assistance as needed
Teach the Universitys FirstYear Success courses including: SE 1010: Freshman Academic Success SE 1017: Honors Freshman Academic Success; SE 1020: Freshman Academic Coaching Seminar
Assist with orientation advising initiatives and programs during the summer including advising incoming students
Lead advisor and staff development initiatives by designing and delivering training sessions workshops and professional development opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge of the advising team
Collaborate with the Director to develop and implement training resources best practices and professional growth strategies for the advising staff
Serve as a collaborative leader within the advising team to promote firstyear student success progression and retention through intentional and strategic initiatives
The successful candidate will actively contribute to the departments mission by providing strategic avenues for student success and retention while enhancing the professional growth and effectiveness of the advising team
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters Degree or higher in a relevant field from an accredited university.
Two years experience teaching a firstyear success course and providing academic advising to firstyear students.
Advanced degree beyond a Masters degree may substitute for one year of the required experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated experience in academic advising coaching or a related field.
Proven ability to effectively support and mentor firstyear students.
Experience in staff training professional development or leadership within an academic setting.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple university departments including the Office for FirstYear Success and other student support entities.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Ability to anticipate and execute leadership tasks as needed.
Strong workplace efficiency goal achievement teamwork and problemsolving skills.
Experience with Staff Training and Development.
