KCIA is recruiting for four 4 undergraduatelevel interns in a variety of fields. See below for details on each position.

For ALL internships: You must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and live within a reasonable distance to the King County Airport.Airfield Operations & Business Relations Intern
Summary
The responsibilities of the Airfield Operations Intern include performing entrylevel airfield oversight and General Aviation duties with the operations & external relations team. Specific operational tasks may include but are not limited to inspections assisting tenants administrative duties and record keeping tenant notifications airport badging and ongoing education through IET online courses covering part 139 and part 77 subject matter. The internship will help the student apply their academic skills to gain firsthand knowledge of Airport General Aviation Construction Tenant& Community Relations and Airfield Operations.
Job Duties
- Review and understanding of the BFI Airport Certification Manual
- Includes Airport Emergency Program AEP
- Assisting with General Aviation hangar/tie down waitlists
- Responding to customer and community inquiries
- Developing standard communication templates
- Utilizing proper and required communications via air to ground radio with FAA ATCT
- Responding to airfield emergencies with operations
- Assisting with daily Part 139 airfield inspections
- Wildlife management and mitigation
- Project Safety and construction oversight
- Understanding Part 77 surfaces
- Assisting airfield tenants as necessary
- Terminal Airside (and Landside when necessary) oversight
- Daily terminal ramp FOD inspections prior to and during peak flight activity
- Assist with Noise complaint data
- Airfield flight operations data reporting
Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills
- Basic familiarity of aviation and/or airports
- Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies procedures and instructions
- Skill in using computer software such as word processing and spreadsheets
- Oral and written communications skills
- Ability to use handheld and ground radios
- Passionate and willing to work in a team environment
Education:Currently enrolled in an accredited fouryear college or university with a focus or interest in airport management.
Work Location:This position will be 100 onsite at the Airport Terminal Building with the operations and business relations team.
Schedule:Up to oneyear internship starting a week after the 2025 school year. Parttime/Fulltime hours: 20 40 hours per week depending on students availability.
General Engineering Intern
Summary
The responsibilities of the General Engineering Intern include assisting with and leading aspects of KCIAs Capital Improvement Program (CIP) developing FAA regulatory documentation assist with construction activities and update our CAD database and models. The chosen candidate will work on highly visible public projects and assist with achieving major agency goals. These projects could range from Runway Rehabilitations to Carbon Neutral efforts. This position will have the opportunity for paid professional development opportunities & trainings access to public management mentors from within the County and crosssectional work within the division.
Job Duties
- Assist with obtaining Carbon Neutral accreditation through the Airports Council International (ACI) this includes coordinating with international entities and companies performing inventories and developing and maintaining a continuous project programs.
- Assist in maintaining construction and contract documentation for the 14L/32R Runway Rehabilitation and Taxiway A4 B3 Reconfiguration and A11 Reconstruction Projects and other tenant projects.
- Assist with the development of the Asset Management database and project implementation.
- Assist supervisor in developing modifying and maintaining work order contracts Architecture and Engineering contracts and other contracts as needed.
- Assist supervisor in reviewing plans specifications and estimates prepared by consultant team.
- Assist with analysis of the FAA regulatory surfaces and verify determinations.
- Assist in engineering documents review Review investigation work plans health and safety plans sampling plans and policies.
- Compile existing documents and SOPs for standard work.
- Participate in design review meetings.
- Assist in maintaining construction and contract documentation.
- KCIA Strategic Climate Action Plan (SCAP) program assistance
Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills
- Enrolled as a college student with prior engineering coursework from an accredited institution.
- Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3d and Revit
- Knowledge of XP SWMM AutoCAD Storm and Sanitary Analysis and GIS
- Competence in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including maturity an ability to work unrepentantly and in a team setting.
- Proactive motivated selfdirected learner with good problemsolving skills.

Innovation GIS Intern
Summary
King County International Airport/Boeing Field (KCIA) is seeking an undergraduate intern entering their 3rd/junior or 4th/senior year to work in collaboration with KCIAs Innovation Section you will gain handson experience in airport infrastructure elements and applying business data in GIS applications.
The responsibilities of the Innovation GIS Intern include performing entrylevel geospatial analytics with mentorship and guidance from the Innovation GIS Specialist reporting to the Innovation Section Manager. Specific tasks may include GIS data gathering QA/QC and normalizing data data editing digitizing map creation and plotting maps. The internship will help the student apply their academic skills to gain firsthand knowledge of airport layout and operations.
KCIAs internship cohort program will provide opportunities to learn about careers in an airport environment and to be supervised and mentored by an airport professional. As part of the KCIAs internship cohort you will have the opportunity to learn from mentor and work with fellow KCIA interns from other areas of expertise and background. Through these experiences we aim to build a strong team that will become future airport and government leaders!
Job Duties
- Using ArcGIS Pro/ArcMap to digitize and edit spatial data
- Using ArcGIS Online for simple data and web map creation
- Create basic site plans or aerial maps from scratch based on customer requests
- Print aerial maps on large plotter for meetings and office use
- Incorporate markups into drawings under the direction of lead or supervisor
- Perform basic research of hardware and equipment and basic mathematical calculations
- Maintain drawing filing supplies and records; prepare drawing sets for internal and external distribution
- Assist in organizing and verifying consultant/contractors project documents
- Verify and compile the necessary documentation for engineering requests
- Gather data for engineering and related projects; analyze data and basemap drawings as assigned
- Research King County International Airport/Boeing Field projects to assemble for
- Perform general office support and maintain records for assigned work unit
- Respond to inquiries from airport staff and consultants regarding work

Innovation and Maintenance Business Applications Intern
Summary
King County International Airport/Boeing Field (KCIA) is seeking an undergraduate intern entering their 3rd/junior or 4th/senior year to work in collaboration with KCIAs Innovation and Maintenance Sections. You will gain handson experience in airport maintenance business processes and technology applications and systems that are critical with maintaining the airports business data and infrastructure.
The responsibilities of the Innovation and Maintenance Business Applications Intern include performing data entry business process improvements users training data analytics and visualization with mentorship and guidance from the Innovation Business Applications Specialist reporting to the Innovation Section Manager and Maintenance Manager. Specific tasks may include data gathering QA/QC and normalizing data data entry creating charts and graphs to tell the story behind the data. The internship will help the student apply their academic skills to gain firsthand knowledge of computer and technology skills and how they apply in an airport environment.
KCIAs internship cohort program will provide opportunities to learn about careers in an airport environment and to be supervised and mentored by an airport professional. As part of the KCIAs internship cohort you will have the opportunity to learn from mentor and work with fellow KCIA interns from other areas of expertise and background. Job Duties
- Data entry in the Airports Cityworks asset management systems data (i.e. creating and closing corrective and preventative maintenance work orders assigning tasks etc. and other business solutions applications data.
- Develop preventative maintenance (PM) parameters work with Maintenance team (trades) to develop PMs setup PMs and communicate with Maintenance Manager Maintenance Supervisor and Crew Chiefs of PM status.
- Making sure assets are associated with work orders where appropriate.
- Assists with eliminating blanket work orders and migrating blanket work orders to cyclical work orders.
- Perform QA/QC of asset management and other maintenance data (i.e. ensuring no duplicates labors hours are entered on the right work order consistency of usage of asset management systems data fields).
- Create metadata and develop standards and best practices to support systems and data.
- Create custom reports dashboards technical standard operating procedures administrative and help documents to support all users (i.e. standard operating procedures guides and training documents).
- Assist in the development and/or revisions to administrative systems process and procedures and workflows within assigned work unit.
- Assist users on the use and adoption of Cityworks technologies and other business solutions applications.
- Assist in data collection and analysis for assigned research projects; prepare summary reports of analysis.
- Help develop monitoring and tracking systems to support work activities.
Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills
- Enrolled as a college student from an accredited institution.
- Techsavvy experience with data entry in application or database
- Skill in data analytics data visualization and/or building reports with Microsoft Excel and PowerBI
- Skill with creating data entry forms with Microsoft Forms.
- Strong communications skills peopleoriented and teamwork
- Strong technical proficiency required including Microsoft Office products including Word Excel Access PowerPoint and Outlook.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
Who May Apply: This recruiting effort is for current college students (returning for theacademic year) from an accredited two or fouryear institution.
Work Schedule: This is a 40 hour per week position for the summer normally working Monday through Friday 8 5 p.m. and 1520 hours per week during the school year. There may be rare times when afterhours weekends and/or holidays are required. This position is nonexempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible.
