TEACHER AIDE
Special Education Services
POSITION SUMMARY:
The teacher aide is under the direct supervision of the teacher. She/he must be able to follow directions be flexible in dealing with different groups and different personalities and maintain an open and positive attitude. A collaborative working relationship with the teacher is paramount.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or equivalent. Must be interested in gaining knowledge in child development mental impairment general and abnormal psychology.
- CPR and first aid training preferred.
- Past work experience with people who have cognitive impairments. Group home training
- Valid Michigan drivers license.
- Must be able to lift students manipulate wheelchair bound students including pulling pushing bending stooping and twisting.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds. (for new positions only)
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Carry out specific behavioral objectives for students.
- Assist in charting counting and modifying inappropriate and maladaptive behaviors of some
- Assist students in personal selfhelp skills: toileting grooming eating and dressing
- Assist teacher in pre and post testing of individual students.
- Assist in receiving and delivering students to and from the buses.
- Attend inservice and staff meetings as requested.
- Assist in developing lesson plans and in preparing materials for instructions.
- Follow all rules and regulations identified in the Employee Handbook.
- Regular predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

RELATED JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in giving medication and maintaining medication charts.
- Collect and record money forms notes and other record keeping necessary for the room and the school.
- Assist in the maintenance of classroom and related supplies and materials.
- Assist in the maintenance and general housekeeping of the classroom and school.
- Assist in preparing room bulletin boards and display cases for the room and center.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employment Date: Pending Board approval and successful completion of employee entrance drug screening and background checks
Salary Range: In accordance with negotiated bargaining agreement wage scale
Benefits: In accordance with negotiated bargaining agreement
Work Schedule: School year
Work Day: 8:00 am 3:20 pm
