The national cryoelectron microscopy (cryoEM) center the Laboratory for BioMolecular Structure (LBMS) at Brookhaven National Laboratory provides sample preparation screening and highresolution data collection for both singleparticle cryoEM and cryoelectron tomography (cryoET) studies.
To expand LBMSs cryoET capabilities we are establishing a cryofocused ion beam (cryoFIB) platform to prepare thin lamellae of cells/tissues. In combination with cryoET biological interactions in cellular environment and the organization/morphology of living cells can be visualized.
The LBMS is seeking an experienced scientist to join our team and support our efforts in expanding cryoET capabilities. The successful candidate will have a strong background in biology biochemistry and experience with cryoET techniques.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Use cryofocused ion beam (cryoFIB) to prepare thin lamellae for cryoET.
Use cryoultramicrotome to prepare thin sections of tissues for cryoET.
Use highpressure freezer to prepare thick samples.
Collect cryoET data and perform data analysis.
Support the operation of LBMS.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Bachelors and 8 years or Masters and 6 years or Doctorate and 2 years postPhD. in the field of cell biology plant biology structure biology immunology biochemistry biophysics chemistry cell biology plant genetics microbiology virology or a related field.
Proven abilities for dissemination of research through publication in peerreviewed journals.
Ability to communicate effectively and constructively.
Ability to work with flexible scheduling.
Selfmotivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Bachelors and 12 years or Masters and 9 years or Doctorate and 4 years postPhD.
Experience in use of a cryofocused ion beam (cryoFIB) for milling biological samples.
Experience in use of a ultramicrotomes to cut biological tissues.
Experience in use of highpressure freezer to freeze thick samples for cryoFIB or ultramicrotome.
Experience in use of SEM and fluorescence microscopy.
Experience in cryoET technique including sample preparation data collection and analysis.
Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair equitable and competitive compensation. This is a multilevel role and the salary range for this position is $103000.00 $138000.00 You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidates qualification education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
