Summary
- About the Role:
This position is a wastewater engineering position helping to design construct and maintain facilities for sustainable and livable communities and a clean and healthy natural environment that support a prosperous and resilient economy.These Senior Civil Project Engineer / Design Manager positions are an opportunity to work on a fun and collaborative team who is dedicated to design process improvement and producing quality products to improve the WTD Conveyance and Treatment systems.
Perform civil engineering work in connection with a variety of sewer conveyance and treatment projects facilities.
Potential project assignments:
- Combined Sewer Overflow Mouth of the Duwamish Project
- North Beach Pump Station replacement
- Lake Hills Boulevard Siphon replacement
- North Creek Force Mains rehabilitation

What You Will Be Doing:
- Serve as Project Engineer on County design projects. As the Project Engineer coordinate design with other engineering disciplines the engineering design review team and other team members; translate operational and maintenance requirements into terms the project team understands; review and consolidate technical comments from design reviews; serve as a single point of technical contact for the project to the Project Manager; develop work plan schedule and budget for the of designs for wastewater projects.
- Review consultant prepared plans and specifications to ensure conformity to the Countys specifications standards and requirements.
- Prepare public works and procurement contract documents and cost estimates to comply with County and State public bidding policy including stamping and signing engineering plans as a licensed Professional Engineer.
- Construction Support and Technical Consultation: Provide technical support during construction. Review contractor submittals and RFIs. Interpret specifications and drawings. Ensure construction aligns with design intentions and regulations. Address technical issues and review change orders
- Assist with complex emergency repairs of wastewater facilities when technical engineering assistance as necessary. Coordinate with the work of maintenance personnel or contractors to accomplish necessary repairs.
- Develop and update mechanical specifications design standards and standard details for incorporation into standard project documentation.
Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills
Qualifications You Bring:
- Bachelors degree in civil engineering mechanical engineering or closely related engineering field.
- Eight 8 years of increasingly responsible engineering experience including project planning design and construction.
- Familiarity with wastewater and/or industrial facilities and construction principles and techniques.
- Demonstrated experience in solving complex technical issues within a multidiscipline work environment.
- Experience in managing multiple highprofile complex capital projects simultaneously within established timeframes and costs.
- Customer Focused Building strong customer relationships and delivering customercentric solutions.
- Manages Complexity Making sense of complex high quantity and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.
- Cultivates Innovation Creating new and better ways for the organization to be successful.

- Washington State Drivers License.
- Registration as a Profession Engineer in State of Washington or the ability to obtain this within 90 days of hiring.
- Knowledge of engineering design directly relating to earth work foundations facilities water and wastewater conveyance and treatment.
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards within civil and mechanical engineering.
- Familiarity with wastewater and/or industrial facilities and construction principles and techniques.
- Ability to collaborate in the development of alternatives in a team environment.
- Ability to provide leadership and direction to the professional and technical staff of a section responsible for implementing a major engineering program; delegates authority to personnel commensurate with responsibility and ensures the proper functioning of section staff.
- Experience mentoring and training more junior level engineers.
Supplemental Information
Working Conditions:
- Remote and Onsite Work Details:Employees in this role work remotely from a home location up to 2 days per week onsite reporting. The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly. Onsite reporting locations may be at various King County worksites including the collaboration space at King Street Center 201 S. Jackson St Seattle WA 98104 and treatment plant facilities. This work arrangement promotes worklifebalance and reduces carbon footprint under the departments vision of Green Where We Work.
- Requirement:Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.
- Work Schedule:This fulltime position works a 40hour work week. This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.
- Union Representation:This position is represented by Technical Employees Association (TEA).
