As the Senior Mechanical Engineer Research and Development (R&D) you will be responsible for performing implant and instrument design work leading small projects and actively participating on multifunctional teams to advance assigned projects through the design/development process through launch to the market for Strykers Interventional Spine (IVS) business unit within Stryker Instruments.

You will need to live within commuting distance to our Portage Michigan office. You will need to be in the office 34 days a week and can work from home on other days.
Under minimal supervision design develop modify and verify mechanical components for medical devices.
Under minimal supervision work with R&D Quality Manufacturing Regulatory Clinical Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success.
Translate design inputs to engineering specifications and produce subsystem level designs.
Apply fundamental and some advanced concepts practices and procedures for problem solving. Develop and analyze solutions prototyping one or more options to provide proof of concept.
Demonstrate proficiency with products intended use and clinical procedures. Demonstrate advanced understanding of customer needs and design inputs.
Follow fundamental industry standards design requirements and test strategies which apply to regulatory requirements.
Independently create or refine engineering documentation such as the Design History file
Follow R&D procedure like design controls and risk management per the Quality Management System.
Work on complex problems applying advanced experience and learnings; while demonstrating ownership and prioritization of work with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering Mechanical Engineering BioMedical or related discipline.
2 years of work experience in mechanical design engineering.
Working knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering practices and design principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of design and concept generation CAD or CAE modeling tools (Creo preferred)
Knowledge of analysis tools (i.e. DFMECA Fault Tree Analysis FEA Stackups etc. and statistical methods (i.e. leveraging Minitab for ANOVA normality testing confidence calculations etc..
Technical ability to create engineering drawings and models applying GD&T and CAE tools.
Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes to product design.
