Job Description

Women in Science Internship Genomics and Museum Studies in the Invertebrate Zoology Collection (High School Students)

This summer internship offers handson training at the intersection of natural history museum practices and genomic sequencing techniques. Interns will gain experience cataloging and curating biological specimens while learning fundamental laboratory methods including DNA extraction PCR and sequencing. Participants will assist in research projects aimed at understanding the biodiversity evolutionary relationships and species conservation of freshwater mussels. The program emphasizes skill development in bioinformatics data analysis and scientific communication within a collaborative museum research environment. Ideal candidates are motivated students with an interest in biology genetics museum studies or related fields eager to integrate museum collections with cuttingedge genomic technologies. Previous experience in molecular laboratories and natural history collections is a plus but not necessary. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office programs (e.g. Word Excel) and have strong organizational and communication skills.

This internship is intended for female and nonbinary identifying students.

Initial HR Orientation is on Monday June 16th w/full time hours of 35 per week starting on June 23rd 2025 July 31st. Salary of $17 per hour @ 35 hours per week.
