Job Description

Position Overview:The Director of Facilities and Operations is responsible for overseeing the overall appearance cleanliness maintenance and safety of all school district buildings and grounds including athletic fields. This role supervises and coordinates custodial and maintenance functions ensuring the efficient operation of facilities and the safety of students staff and visitors. The Director plays a key role in the development and implementation of capital improvement plans preventative maintenance programs budgeting and the overall management of facilitiesrelated operations.Key Responsibilities:1. Facilities and Grounds MaintenanceCoordinate inspections and maintenance for all school buildings playgrounds boilers kitchen equipment life safety systems and specialized areasOversee the mechanical electrical and HVAC systems ensuring their proper functioning and timely repairs.Ensure that all District buildings and grounds are clean safe and properly maintained including overseeing building repairs renovations and equipment replacements.Manage the Districts work request and work order system (e.g. SchoolDude) ensuring that requests are completed efficiently and in a timely manner.Prepare specifications for contracted work and inspect construction repair and renovation projects to ensure quality and compliance.Oversee the performance of contractors responsible for grounds maintenance and snow removal.2. Planning and Project ManagementParticipate in the development and of a comprehensive fiveyear capital improvement plan for the Districts facilities.Coordinate the of approved capital improvement projects collaborating with contractors and staff as needed.Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program for all building equipment and systems and execute periodic maintenance schedules.Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment ensuring timely replacement and procurement as needed.Collaborate with the Athletic Director and Building Use Coordinator to manage the Districts Building Use Program ensuring efficient scheduling and facility utilization.3. Budgeting and PurchasingPrepare specifications for the purchase of materials supplies equipment and services necessary for maintaining District facilities.Ensure compliance with state procurement laws and work to secure the best most costeffective solutions for the Districts facility needs.4. Supervision and Staff ManagementSupervise and evaluate all custodial and maintenance staff ensuring effective team performance and adherence to District standards.Provide ongoing training support and leadership to custodial and maintenance teams promoting professional development and highquality service.Collaborate with building principals to manage custodial staff performance and operations.Evaluate and enforce policies and procedures related to building cleanliness safety and maintenance operations.Qualifications and Requirements:Associate MCPPO Certification preferredExperience:Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in facilities management construction or a related field.At least 3 years of supervisory experience is required.Experience managing unionized staff is essential.Experience with SchoolDude or similar work order systems preferred.Municipal School District experience is preferred.Skills and Abilities:Strong leadership communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively prioritize tasks in a fastpaced environment.Indepth knowledge of building systems HVAC plumbing electrical systems and safety protocols.Strong understanding of budgeting procurement and cost management in a public sector environment.Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.Demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative and productive work environment.Physical Requirements:Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.Capability to perform physical tasks such as bending lifting and standing for extended periods.Occasional work in physically demanding environments including construction sites and mechanical rooms.Work Environment:This position requires both officebased and onsite work in school buildings and facilities.Evening and weekend hours may be required for emergency response meetings or special events.
