Custodian
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred but not required
- Demonstrated skills for assigned responsibilities
- Knowledge of cleaning materials and agents helpful
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Reports To:Principal/Director of Maintenance and Operations
Job Goal:
To provide students with a safe attractive comfortable clean and efficient place in which to learn play and develop.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Keeps building and premises including sidewalks driveways and play areas neat and clean at all times.
- Regulates heat ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel water and electricity.
- Shovels plows and sands walk driveways parking areas and steps as appropriate.
- Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
- Sweeps/vacuums classrooms daily and dust furniture.
- Cleans corridors after school each day and during the day when their condition requires it.
- Mops and disinfects toilet floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
- Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least annually and more frequently if necessary.
- Keeps the grounds free from rubbish.
- Performs such yardkeeping chores as grass cutting tree trimming and the like as necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
- Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
- Cleans all chalkboards at least once a week.
- Makes minor building repairs according to capability.
- Reports major repairs needed promptly to the principal.
- Reports immediately to the principal any damage to school property.
- Remains on the school premises during school hours and during nonschool hours when the use of the building has been authorized and attendance required by the principal.
- Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining before leaving that all doors and windows are secured and all lights except those left on for safety reasons are turned off.
- Keeps an inventory of supplies equipment and fuel on hand and requisitions such as needed replacements far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian in future duties.
- Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
- Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash rubbish and waste.
Specific Job Requirements:
- Possess and utilize excellent teambuilding skills
- Accept delegated responsibilities willingly
- Able to lift seventyfive pounds
- Adapt personal daily schedule to accommodate abnormal work hours
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and agents.
- Must be able to perform physical activities such as lifting bending and standing for long periods.
- May be required to work evenings weekends and holidays as needed.
- Must be able to handle emergency situations and perform tasks under pressure.
Terms of Employment:
Twelve Months/240 days; salary and work year established by the Board
Evaluation:
The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on the Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
