Job Description

Hiring Range: $30.21$36.25. The maximum pay for this position is $42.29.

The Detention Center Security Tech / Central Control Room Technician ensures the safety and security of employees inmates and visitors while inside the detention facility. Monitors and controls movement throughout the detention facility and other securitysensitive areas in and around the Eagle County Detention facility Sheriffs Office and Court House. Provides standard technical and administrative support within the Detention Facility.

Great Schedule! This position will work 12 hr. shifts.. The first week requires only Wednesday and Thursday shifts. The second week requires Monday Tuesday Friday Saturday and Sunday. This allows for a threeday weekend every other week.

Essential Functions

  • Works under the direction of the Detention Sergeant working primarily independently but receiving immediate direction from sworn personnel.
  • Visually and auditorily monitors inmate and visitor activities throughout the detention facility via closed circuit cameras and intercoms.
  • Visually monitors over 75 cameras inside and outside of the justice center facility and courtrooms via closed circuit cameras. Provides direct support to emergency and nonemergency responders within the area by providing visual intelligence and observation.
  • Controls inmate visitor and employee access and movement within the facility by control of access doors and intercoms. Ensures unauthorized persons are not admitted into the detention facility. Communicates effectively and coherently with inmates professional visitors and the public by providing needed information and direction.
  • Monitors detention facility radio transmissions for routine and emergent traffic; inclusive of facility traffic justice center security traffic and transport radio traffic.
  • Comprehends and responds to radio traffic clearly and concisely using appropriate radio protocol when transmitting information.
  • Assumes the role of Incident Command for incidents occurring within the justice center facility; inclusive of the detention center court facilities Probation and the
  • Sheriffs Office. Command is assumed for various scenarios such as but not limited to; deaths hostage situations escapes riots fires active shooter situations and medical emergencies.
  • Responsible for monitoring and responding appropriately to the fire annunciator status board for the justice center facility. Discerning between alarm signals; making appropriate notifications in both emergent and nonemergent alarm situations.
  • Accounts for all keys maintained in the control room. Issues and retrieves keys for staff and maintenance personnel while working in the facility.
  • Operates and maintains certification for the use of the CCIC (Colorado Crime Index Computer)/NCIC (National Crime Index Computer). Monitoring the system for local and nationwide teletypes and disseminating needed information appropriately.
  • Responsible for running queries on persons for; warrants criminal histories and identification purposes accurately interpreting identity and entry information. Must work within mandated time constraints to confirm warrant information on parties that agencies throughout the country may be in contact with responding to/or making appropriate requests based on system requirements. Provide support service for both Sheriffs Office Records division as well as; Eagle Minturn and
  • Ensures equipment specific to duties is operable; reports maintenance problems for such equipment as well as submitting maintenance requests for the facility as requested.
  • Answers incoming telephone calls for the detention facility as well as the Sheriffs Office outside of normal business hours or circumstances. Triage incoming calls for proper response or movement to outside agencies or proper personnel within the agency.
  • Performs computer and clerical duties as required during daily tasks. Maintains accuracy confidentiality and security of records in assigned work area as well as maintaining supplies for use.
  • Serves as records custodian for official record requests as they pertain to the detention center inmates.
  • Brief incoming detention sergeant/staff of activities related to control room duties during the previous shift.
  • Facilitates inmate/public visits at the facility as per policy; educates the public about visitation policies processes visitation request forms and monitors visits as needed.
  • Tracks and logs inmate transport information utilizing GPS monitoring on transport vehicles telephone and radio notifications by transport deputy.
  • Scans searches and logs all incoming inmate mail. Distributes detention personnel/facility mail appropriately.
  • May serve as FTO (field training officer) assisting in training new CCR Techs.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for the performance of the job and as needed.

Qualifications

Education Experience Licensure Certification or Registration:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Valid State Drivers License and a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
    • Successful completion of training in NCIC/CCIC certification first aid and CPR

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

    • Inmate rights ethical standards medical and psychological warning signs and all emergency procedures.
    • Current detention facility policy and procedures.
    • Computer and word processing applications related to the position.

Skills in:

    • Professional communication discretion initiative problemsolving and independent judgment within established guidelines.
    • Preparing clear and concise reports correspondence and other written documents.
      Effectively working and directing inmate activities and interacting with all levels of county employees management and citizens.

Mental and Physical Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work under a variety of conditions with coworkers inmates visitors etc. many times under adverse and unusual circumstances. Ability to multitask in an environment that can become stressful and challenging.
  • Ability to confront problems promptly and make appropriate and independent decisions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operation and maintenance instructions procedure manuals etc.
  • While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods; to walk sit use hands to finger handle or feel reach with hands and arms climb stairs talk and hear. Specific vision requirements include the ability to discriminate between colors to exercise both close and distant vision to have depth perception and to readily adjust focus between objects.
