Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Editor for MediaLab Boca Raton FL.
The School of Communication and Multimedia Studies seeks a parttime editor of a newsacademic partnership serving South Florida. publishes stories reported and written by students guided by experienced journalism faculty. Since Fall 2023 MediaLab has provided reliable original content for major local media outlets including The Palm Beach Post The South Florida SunSentinel and WLRN. Our work has also been published in other NPR affiliates and mediumsized newspapers across Florida. Our dynamic project has recently been awarded a grant from Press Forward a national movement to strengthen communities by reinvigorating local news.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Edit news and feature stories for clarity brevity accuracy grammar and adherence to AP style.
Write headlines and subheadlines that maximize SEO.
Coordinate with senior editors to align coverage with publication goals.
Mentor student journalists by providing meaningful feedback and professional guidance.
Stay updated on state and local news.
Be familiar with best practices in journalism and industrywide ethical standards.
Convert stories into social media posts on platforms such as Instagram and LinkedIn.
