All Summer Engineering Technician positions:
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and

Summer Engineering Technician I:
  • Completion of one 1 year of college university or trade school in engineering surveying construction management computer science or other specific area of study as deemed applicable; and/or
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Summer Engineering Technician II:
  • Completion of two 2 years of college university or trade school in engineering surveying construction management computer science or other specific area of study as deemed applicable; or
  • Four 4 months of experience working the in fields of engineering surveying construction management computer science or specific experience deemed necessary; or
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Summer Engineering Technician III:
Completion of three 3 years of college university or trade school in engineering surveying construction management computer science or specific area of study as deemed necessary; or
  • Eight 8 months of experience working the in fields of engineering surveying construction management computer science or specific experience deemed necessary; or
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Additional Eligibility Requirements:
  • Use of computer and other office equipment effectively and efficiently.
  • Possession of a valid drivers license by date of hire. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon drivers license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 1.
  • Ability to maintain acceptable driving record throughout employment.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City
  • Clear drug screen following federal law (which includes testing for cannabis)


Available Schedule:

  • Monday Friday 8:00 AM 5:00 PM
  • Flexibility is available for planned summer vacations
  • Duration June through September

Essential Functions of the Position:
Summer Engineering Technician I


Summer Engineering Technician II
  • With the direction of a manager or lead worker inspects a variety of routine construction projects and permits.
  • Inspects erosion and sediment control compliance on private construction projects and provides recommendations to managers regarding compliance and needed corrective actions.
  • May assist with basic designs for construction project utilizing computer aided drafting (CAD) software.
  • Creates and updates site specific maps for customers and departments assessing maps and records and maintaining databases for tracking maps and records.
  • Utilize GIS to do various mapping needs within the Engineering Division.
  • Performs a variety of tasks related to stormwater permit compliance such as water quality testing and facility inspection under the direction of a manager or lead worker.
  • Processes files and maintains a variety of records maps plans permits property descriptions etc.
  • May write and author portions of technical documents and manuals.
  • Supports staff to resolve citizen complaints in area of expertise.
  • Assists the Survey Section with a variety of survey tasks such as:
    • Providing construction staking for Citys capital projects.
    • Monumentation and drafting final Maps of Survey.
    • Establishing/Reestablishing rightofway lines and location improvements.
    • Performing topographical surveys and creating base maps for engineers design.
    • Performing field and office verification checks on submitted plats.
  • Assists with tasks related to traffic engineering such as collecting traffic count data assisting with sight visibility evaluations and other site investigations under the supervision of a manager or lead worker.

Summer Engineering Technician I
  • Under the direction of a manager or lead worker inspects a variety of construction projects and permits.
  • For City capital construction projects takes load tickets documents deliveries and calculates quantities.
  • Processes files and maintains a variety of records maps plans permits property descriptions etc.
  • Assists with tasks related to stormwater permit compliance such as water quality testing.
  • Inspects erosion and sediment control compliance on private construction projects and reports findings to a manager or lead worker.
  • Checks and reviews plans for completeness.
  • Assists the Survey Section with a variety of entry level survey tasks that could include construction staking for Citys capital projects; monumentation and assisting with completing topographical surveys.
  • Assists with tasks related to traffic engineering such as collecting traffic count data and assisting with sight visibility evaluations under the supervision of a manager or lead worker.

Summer Engineering Technician II
  • With the direction of a manager or lead worker inspects a variety of routine construction projects and permits.
  • Inspects erosion and sediment control compliance on private construction projects and provides recommendations to managers regarding compliance and needed corrective actions.
  • May assist with basic designs for construction project utilizing computer aided drafting (CAD) software.
  • Creates and updates site specific maps for customers and departments assessing maps and records and maintaining databases for tracking maps and records.

  • Utilize GIS to do various mapping needs within the Engineering Division.
  • Writes specifications for construction projects and facilitates plan/specification changes payouts and other related activities.
  • May assist with the acquisition of property and/or easements for public rightofway sewer systems and storm drain systems.
  • Inspects erosion and sediment control compliance on private construction projects and works directly with contractors to ensure compliance.
  • Performs tasks related to stormwater permit compliance such as water quality testing stormwater facility inspection and provides recommendations to managers regarding compliance and needed corrective actions.
  • Reviews property descriptions for completeness and clarity.
  • Writes and authors portions of technical documents and manuals.
  • Assists the Survey Section with a variety of survey tasks such as:
    • Providing construction staking for Citys capital projects.
    • Monumentation and drafting final Maps of Survey.
    • Establishing/Reestablishing rightofway lines and location improvements.
    • Performing topographical surveys and creating base maps for engineers design.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Work is performed in both an office and field environment. While performing duties for this job in the field the employee may be exposed to varying weather conditions; employee may be exposed to noise dust chemicals paint and traffic hazards. Proper personal protective equipment must be worn when necessary.

The physical demands here are represented of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand sit walk bend twist talk and hear; use their hands to operate a computer and phone; and reach with their hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. May pull manhole covers and walk over rough terrain.
