TITLE: Middle School/High School Social Worker

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Hold a Type 73 Illinois Certificate in Social Work
  2. Bachelors degree or higher
  3. Prior job experience preferred
  4. Display strong listening skills questioning abilities problemsolving skills and confidentiality.
  5. Ability to work as both a colleague and a leader.
  6. Display courtesy tact and respect when dealing with others.
  7. Ability to react well under pressure handle and balance multiple demands at one time work with frequent interruptions and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism

REPORTS TO:Special Education Coordinator andBuilding Principal

JOB GOAL: To help students resolve such personal emotional and social problems as interfere with their adjustment to school and their capacity to enjoy the fullest benefits of the education offered them.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops longterm and shortterm intervention plans consistent with the curriculum students needs strengths diversity life experiences and social and emotional factors.
  2. Conducts a variety of appropriate formal and informal tools and techniques including observations and interviews to evaluate the progress and performance of students and families.
  3. Develops and provides training and educational programs that address the goals and mission of the educational institution.
  4. Provides services to students in ways that build upon individual strengths and offers students maximum opportunities to participate in the planning and direction of their own learning experience.
  5. Consults and collaborates on such issues as attendance diversity mental health behavior management delinquency crisis intervention homelessness child abuse neglect and the importance of confidentiality.
  6. Works with internal and external individuals groups and organizations to develop programs or systems of care that support and enhance students health social and emotional wellbeing and safety.
  7. Assists the school and community in planning programs that alleviate situations that may interfere with students learning process.
  8. Organizes time resources energy and workload in order to meet responsibilities.
  9. Maintains current knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations and abides by said laws and regulations emphasizing persons with disabilities child welfare mental health confidentiality and student and parent rights.
  10. Maintains accurate case records and documentation which includes student logs.
  11. Performs casework services with individual students to correct those personal social or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress.
  12. Attends IEP/MDC meetings for all students on caseload and those students for whom social work services may be appropriate.

  13. Makes home visits to gather helpful information on a students background.

  14. Provides interventions to students to support the teaching process and to maximize learning as needed K12.

  15. Attend data review days.

  16. Provides consultation to parents teachers other school personnel and community agencies to enhance student learning.

  17. Act as a resource to the Superintendent Principal(s) Special Education Coordinator School Psychologist and Social Worker.

  18. Perform other tasks and duties requested by the Board Coordinator Principal or Superintendent.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the Board

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be completed by the Special Education Coordinator and/or desinee on an annual basis.
