Job Description
SCHOOL COUNSELORS ELEMENTARY
SCHOOL YEAR
Assignments and Locations to be determined
The Montgomery County School Board in Virginia is now accepting applications for elementary school counselor positions that may become available within our division for theschool year.
Please note this is a continuous recruit posting to build an applicant pool for all schools. As positions become available all qualified applicants with complete application files will be considered. Should a specific location/job be posted you may also be required to apply to that posting.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The School Counselor will assist students with problems and decisions involved in understanding themselves and the world in which they live and will work. This individual will assist students in making decisions about their future schooling and occupational interests. They will also serve as a resource for parents/guardians teachers and other adults involved with the students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teachers License with appropriate as a school counselor PreK12 or equivalent
- An earned masters degree in counseling with an emphasis in school counseling
- The ability to support students by cooperatively working with parents/guardians and teachers
- Have experience and expertise in using technology in education
- Have experience in fostering an inclusive learning environment
- Have experience or working familiarity with Google Drive for instruction collaboration and course work
- Have effective written verbal presentation and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with parents and families
- Demonstrate the ability to work and collaborate with a team of other teachers
- Ability to be dependable and punctual
PREFERENCE GIVEN FOR:
- Counselor and teaching experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experienced or have working familiarity with virtual education
