Job Description
SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to obtain and prepare blood and urine specimens for analysis and perform various screening tests. Native American Community has a moderate complexity laboratory. This position reports to the Laboratory Manager.
DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performallinhouselabtestsindependentlyandaccurately
- Performqualitycontrolandpreventivemaintenanceofalllabequipment
- Specimenpreparationforsendouttestingtoreferencelab
- Maintaininventoryandordersuppliesasneeded
- Followpolicyandprocedureasinstructed
- Haveknowledgeofcostsbillingandcodingprocedures
- Communicateresultsoftestsperformedtoproviderandnursingstaff
- Recordallproceduresappropriatelyandaccurately
- Maintainmonthlylogsandreports
- Notifypatientsofnormallabresultsviaphonecall/letter
- Assureallbiohazardmaterialsareproperlydisposedof
- Supports regulatory requirements of CLIA ensuring compliance in all areas
- Conducts phlebotomy for patient care needs
- Otherdutiesasassigned
KNOWLEDGESKILLSAND ABILITIES
- Musthavegoodblooddrawingskills.Venousandcapillary;familiarwith obtaining blood from all age groups
- KnowledgeofCLIAregulations
- FamiliarwithQuestDiagnostics
- RespectandsensitivitytotheNativeAmericanpopulation
- Abletouseinitiative;haveflexibilityandindependentworkskills
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Does not supervise staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- CertifiedMedicalLabTechoreligibleforcertification
- Minimum of two years of laboratory experience
- Highschooleducationorequivalentrequired
In addition preferred qualifications include:
- CertifiedMedicalAssistantor phlebotomist
- Community lab experience
