The North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA) is the largest justice and legal service in the Northern Territory. We provide vital support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people right across the Northern Territory. With offices in Darwin Palmerston Katherine Tennant Creek and Alice Springs we are passionate about delivering justice services while driving meaningful change in the legal system.
At NAAJA you will make a difference every daysupporting operations that help deliver legal services to some of the most vulnerable and remote communities in Australia.
About the Role
In this senior leadership position you will:
Lead the Child Protection Practice Group mentoring and supervising legal staff
Provide legal advice and representation to clients in the Local and Supreme Courts
Conduct urban and remote legal advice clinics
Handle litigation and casework in civil law including child protection police accountability discrimination and tenancy
Develop and implement civil law policies and procedures
Support regional NAAJA offices including remote travel and legal outreach
What we are looking for Key criteria
Admitted or eligible for admission as a solicitor in NT and the High Court of Australia
4 years postadmission experience in civil law with a focus on litigation and casework
Proven leadership & mentoring skills in a legal setting
Strong crosscultural communication skills & commitment to social justice
Ability to travel to remote Aboriginal communities
Current drivers licence & Ochre Card (Working with Children Clearance)
No criminal history that disqualifies legal practice employment
