The Occupational Therapist is responsible for planning organizing and conducting occupational therapy programs in school settings to facilitate the development and rehabilitation of mentally physically or emotionally disabled persons by performing the following duties.Plans program involving activities such as manual arts and craftsProvides practice in functional prevocational vocational and homemaking skills and activities of daily living.Coordinates participation in sensorimotor educational recreational and social activities designed to help patients or disabled persons develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities.Consults with other members of the rehabilitation team to select and oversee (both directly and indirectly) an activity program consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individual and to coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities.Select constructive activities suited to the individuals physical capacity intelligence level and interest to upgrade the individual to maximum independence assist in the restoration of functions and aid in adjustment to disabilityTeaches individuals skills and techniques required for participation in activities and evaluates individuals progress.Designs and constructs special equipment for individuals and suggests adaptation of individuals schoolliving environment.Requisitions supplies and equipment.Lays out materials for individual use and cleans and repairs tools at the end of sessions.May provide supervision and guidance as required to any Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) that the SU hires.Other duties may be assigned.Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union (OSSU) serves schoolage children in the towns of Craftsbury Greensboro Hardwick Stannard Wolcott and Woodbury.
