Job Description

Job Posting Details:
Talen Energy is seeking a Plant TechnicianCEM (Continuous Emissions Monitoring) candidate to join our team at our Brandon Shores power plant located in Baltimore MD (Pasadena area). The Brandon Shores Plant is a fully scrubbed coalfired generating station. We are looking for qualified candidates with four years of experience with plant continuous emissions monitoring hardware/software or equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience or four years of experience with plant distributed data acquisition and control systems. The position reports to the Production Supervisor.


Primary Purpose & Summary:
Troubleshoots repairs and performs preventive maintenance on plant continuous emissions monitoring (CEM) analyzers programmable logic controllers and data acquisition hardware. Utilizes a variety of testing equipment and instrumentation to calibrate test and repair CEM system hardware. Keeps abreast of Federal and State requirements for this equipment. Develops preventive maintenance procedures and identifies spare parts required to maintain system availability. Prepares and maintains appropriate test results and reports as required. Supports system quarterly and yearly audits. Troubleshoots applicable software. Operates maintains and troubleshoots all fossil plant steam and combustion turbine generating and auxiliary equipment. Familiar with ESC DAS software system.

The expected salary range for this position is $95000.00 to $115000.00 annually. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other jobrelated factors as permitted by law. Successful candidates will also participate in Talen Energys ShortTerm Incentive program.

Responsibilities:
1. Operates maintains and troubleshoots various types of equipment.
2. Ensures equipment maintenance schedules are adhered to and any malfunctions are reported documented and addressed.
3. Subject to rotating shift work holiday and weekend work in addition to short overtime notice.

Skills/Competencies:
1. Performs job duties safely and adheres to all safety and environmental compliance requirements.
2. Demonstrated ability to complete job assignments in a setting that requires teamwork as well as independent decision making.
3. Solid communication skills both verbal and written.
4. Demonstrated ability to utilize a variety of test equipment/instrumentation.
5. Demonstrated ability to test and repair continuous emissions monitoring hardware and to analyze associated software problems.
6. Comprehension level sufficient to write procedures and to interpret regulatory requirements.
Education & Experience Required:
1. Four years of experience with plant continuous emissions monitoring hardware/software or equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience or four years of experience with plant distributed data acquisition and control systems.
Licenses/Certifications Required:
1. Possession of a valid drivers license and ability to meet Company driving standards.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment including a computer stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions vision to read printed materials and a computer screen for long period of time. Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. It may be necessary at times to visit power plants coal combustions byproduct landfills or other potentially hazardous industrial locations primarily for the purpose of evaluating compliance. At times an individual may respond to environmental release situations. Able to climb ladders to reach elevated equipment.

At the Power Plant facility and in/out door environment must be able to work in adverse conditions that may include but not be limited to the following:
While performing the duties of the job the employee is regularly required to climb stairs ladders and work on elevated platforms. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
Must be able to lift 45 pounds overhead and 75 pounds from the floor to 36 inches.
Must be willing to travel to other facilities if needed.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color distinction with vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to work around high voltage.
Must have manual dexterity and ability to manipulate keyboards.
Must be capable of wearing respirators and working in dusty environments.
On occasions employee may be required to work at heights to collect samples or conduct other environmental assessment where guarding or fall protection is required.
Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of the job the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills read and interpret data information and documents; analyze and solve complex problems observe and interpret situations use math and mathematical reasoning; deal with changing intensive deadlines and interact with internal and external clients. Must be able to concentrate while under time constraints.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.
The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and wet or humid conditions. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals fumes or airborne particles risk of electrical shock and vibration.
Exposure to hazards associated with power and hand tools dust fumes high pressure steam high temperatures and confined spaces; and may be regularly subject to external environmental conditions such as cold heat dust snow or noise and fumes from equipment or chemicals.
Occupationally hazardous noise exposure may occur in the power plant or other locations where heavy industrial equipment is in use.
